A lot of people were taken aback by Boy George’s gender-bending appearance, however, his voice is what got people to largely ignore his appearance, and sexuality. He had(still does, too) a truly soulful voice!

Yeah, that reminds me of a song coincidence I had one time. My nephew and I were riding over a bay bridge leading into Seaside Heights New Jersey. We had moved out of state 12 years earlier and was just passing through during a road trip. While we were on the bridge I started singing this song "Sooner Or Later" by The Grassroots. He looked over at me as if to say, what makes you sing that song. I said when I used to come here about 20 years ago when I was a kid I always remember hearing that song playing on the loudspeakers on the pier while I was on the beach. After we parked the car right near the boardwalk. Within 5 to 10 minutes after we got there, we went to play one of the wheel games at Lucky Leos. It was a semi indoor sit-down game. So, just after we sat down and started to play the game, my nephew nudges me. I said "what? " With a surprising look in his eyes, he said listen. I was impressed that he recognized the first few notes. I said "WOW!"I told you! They still play that song here! Not only that, but it was also the very first song I believe we heard in the short amount of time we were there. I didn't win anything on the Wheel game but that song was my lotto for the day.

None other than Boy George. My late dad who was a straight laced gospel and country singer made the comment that his attire was not to his liking but he said that boy can sing. The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It's about trying to suck up to everybody per Boy George who was also one of the co-writers.

I was in high school when this song came out, and I didn’t have a good understanding of this song and what it meant at all. It’s only in recent years I’ve come to learn how significant the lyric is, and I’m a bigger fan of his now than ever before. There’s a recent video of him slowing this down and singing, and his smile and tender heart is so touching. Look into it, I think you’ll be surprised! 🌻 And Happy (belated) Birthday! 🎂🎉😊

I've observed my wife moving faster than the speed of light on two occasions. She was sitting beside me in a 100 Mile House pub then she materialized across the room and in her seat a large bat stretched and yawned. The next time was in her parents' home town Paderne, Portugal when the restaurant's chameleon named George turned himself into a ceramic decoration in order to hide in plain sight on the shelf not 6 inches from Lena's ear. When George decided her shoulder would work as as a stepping stone to prevent a moth snack from landing on her plate. She seemed to go through the table and George the chameleon hovered like Wile E. Coyote before dropping to the chair and work out how to swallow the wings. Since the screaming is delayed or deleted, close call stories are much easier to tell. Thank you for listening, Anyone know: Trooper, We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time) and/or Raise a Little Hell?

Not sure if this is true but I’ve read that since the colours red, gold and green are often found on many African flags, they represent the struggle of the people who were fighting for equality, which ties in with the whole meaning of Karma Chameleon. Boy George was fighting to be treated as an equal in his relationship and his life, and uses the struggle for equality of many African people as a way to get the message of equality for everyone - including himself being accepted as a gay male. And he was somewhat into Rastafarianism I believe at that point

In the 80s & '90s, we had such great music. I think people were happier too. It was so much fun! A funny story (to me) My son At( about eleven ) on Saturdays & Sundays would wake me up in the morning and we'd play DJ, which would last for about 3 hours more or less. This song came to me. I said Culture club & he said do you know who they are? Yes, and because he made a screwed up face, I knew what he was referring to, and what hell does that have to do with all the tea in China? Just play it! Well, this was the song. I was kinda dancing around, And maybe he kinda liked it. The funny part was when he came home from school the next day, he told me, Thanks ma, I couldn't get that song out of my head all day long. I laughed my butt off. That's exactly why I liked it was because it was happy sounding and very catchy. It made you dance where ever you were! That's the 80's. Your generation really missed this time in music. The song is about Jon pretending to be straight while having a relationship with George. Jon had a reputation as the womanizing heart breaker of the group and enjoyed playing the part then making up with George after playing with the female groupies.

"Karma Chameleon" was Culture Club's first #1 hit in 14 countries when it was released in 1983 & was #1 in the US for 3 weeks. Boy George later thanked America because he said he had finally made enough money to buy his Mom a house !

November 22, 1984 - Thanksgiving night - I saw Culture Club headlining at Madison Square Garden. Boy George was awesome - great stage presence - what an entertainer! I know he went through some tough times, but is doing great now.

I was jealous of Boy George, he was prettier than me and did his make up better than me 😂😂. He still looks good with his makeup on but not as pretty 😉😂

Karma Chamelion remains Boy George’s signature hit single. There have been many artists who have covered the song over the years since 1983. Perhaps the most creative recent entry was by Venduka Wichita from Canberra, Australia. She performed her blues version on season 8 of The Voice Australia. It was original enough to dumbfound Boy George for several seconds before he realized the song was his own. m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gcCcmJCQvL-6dZs.html

Boy George was quite the controversial figure in the rather conservative 80s...nobody had ever really seen such an androgynous figure in the mainstream before. But nobody ever denied that he has a helluva singing voice and is a great songwriter too.

The 80s.......graduated in 85. The girls wore tux jackets and ties Annie Lenox.....and the men wore as much makeup.....hair bands, Duran Duran....lol We are the generation of contradictions. Btw...I had Prince hair and it took an hour to get that 80s hair! 😋

Boy George was unapologetically himself and did a lot of good for being so. I remember being a kid and getting my mum to do my hair like this lol. I still have my culture club fan up card from 1982 lol. I understood he was different but didn't really understand how, but I think it helped me to not be shocked or have a negative reaction when I realised what being 'gay' was. He's great.

Boy George was quite controversial when he & Culture Club came on the scene in about 1984....he was the original celebrity "gender bender".....he was a man, but dressed a lot like a girl....he also was the fasted teenage millionaire in British H9story, that was not a titled or royal person. He grew up mostly in poverty

He is one of my favorites. His voice is just perfection. He can still sing. He is a judge on a talent show. He went through a really bad time for a while. I wish he would get back to recording. His voice is a true gift

So many people were taken aback and outraged by Boy George's appearance in the early 1980's. It often overshadowed their music. I was so impressed because you never even mentioned it once, and instead focused on the music and the song's message. How times have changed!

I see nobody reacting to Five Star from the 80s. A British group made up of 5 siblings. The British answer to the Jackson five they were labelled. They really were a very polished group managed by their father with an insane catalogue of hits. Every single went Top 5 and their following was huge. Checkout Stay out of my life, rain or shine or slightest touch for a start and see what you think.

The song is about an unreliable lover. The video it's not exactly about the song but about another kind of chameleon, who steals jewelry instead of love. It's vague enough that multiple understandings are available oh, but it's not about a pickpocket, like the video is.

My favorite song by Culture Club is MISS ME BLIND. Boy George said Karma Chameleon was about the terrible fear of alienation people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It's about trying to suck up to everybody.
