Touch of a 'half-truth' about the 'freed slaves' bit! Seychellois' African ancestors initially arrived as slaves and were put through hell by the French. Later, some freed slaves ended up in Seychelles. Just my humble opinion but I think the painful past should not be forgotten in order to paint Seychelles as having a merely 'colourful' history in order to sell it to tourists.

In the UN scheme f geographic regions, 19 territories constitute Eastern Africa of which Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles are considered small island nations in the Indian Ocean.

I would know if you can retire there. I will be getting a nice pension in the next decade or so. I am beginning to get sick of the USA! Too fast paced, too commercial. Seychelles sounds like a nice place to retire.
