Ghana we have never spoken or taken pidgin as part of our language system. Pidgin was just a Secondary school coded language like the new language they started "migizigi" which was also a coded secondary school fun language but now everyone understands "migizigi " meaning I'm saying.

I’m a British Ghanaian. It’s interesting to hear you share your experiences living in Ghana. In regards to pidgin, both Ghanaian and Nigerian Pidgin are similar but it has many differences. The common words I hear that we both use like sabi, dey, dem etc. I listen to a lot of Nigerian music so I understand their pidgin a little bit. Maybe because you haven’t experienced our pidgin so you can’t understand Ghanaian pidgin and you can’t come compare the two.

The Ghana pidgin is a literal translation form local dialect... Since you are in Ghana ask someone to translate that pidgin you said to twi... And and then you will understand.. So regarding the pidgin! The ghanaian pidgin is kinda a direct translation of our twi or fanti language( l mean most our pidgin words) so like the example that u gave regarding 'mouth' The direct translation of mouth in twi/fanti is 'Ano' which means mouth and it also mean 'Front' So front and mouth have the same meaning! The difference is the context in which they are used! So e dey my gate e mouth(front) in pidgin english, is = saying he's standing at the front my gate! So u don't understand twi/fante, our pidgin will not make sense or meaning to you!

Ghanaian pidgin is not easily spoken since it's not encouraged in schools. You start dey hear pidgin for secondary schools and even that when found you go be penalized. I start dey speak pidgin the time I go Uni and one must also be well versed in the English language b4 he or she go fit speak. Wanna pidgin dey sweet pass 😂😅

Please Twi is not Ashanti language. Akans are made up of Fante, Bono, Denkyira, Guan, Akuapem. These are tribes that speak twi hence the main reason why twi is the most popular language in Ghana. Check the geographical location of all these Akan tribes on the map & you’ll realise they occupy over 60 percent of the regions in Ghana. Ashantis are vociferous that’s why it’ll seem they’re the only tribe that speaks twi in Ghana.

@@kwasifrimpong7815yea true but I think they are referring to asante Twi, which I think the general public speak more, even though the twi language is spoken in various forms depend on which akan tribe you are from

@@kwasifrimpong7815 fantes don't speak twi. We also have to debunk this ignorant view. Fantes speak fante. The language is called akan not twi. Twi is just a dialect like fante.

@kwasifrimpong7815 Жыл бұрын
@@larryquashie7565 My brother check the meaning of Twi & Akan before you talk. Also check the meaning of ignorance like you said & you’ll understand. I read African studies & language & ethnicity from the university of cape coast so I won’t spew garbage here. Twi is another term for Akan speaking people or another term of Akan language. Please understand the meaning of these terminologies & don’t associate yourself with which Akan tribe language is predominant. I’m an Akuapem & we say “ I speak Akuapem twi”. My father is a Guan he also does same so get your facts right before you insult. Twi is just a slang for Akan language.
