Welcome to Ireland. It is interesting to hear that what we would consider normal are odd in other places. When it comes to being materialistic, we have a word here "notions" and you never want to be accused of having "notions". Having "notions" is when you think you are better than people around you, so waving your new phone or whatever around would be considered having "notions", that is a worse crime than not thanking the bus driver!

I grew up in NYC. Everyone said Thank you to bus driver. I still do. Many bus riders of all backgrounds saybThank you. I live in a mideium sized city in New Englannd,.

With the meals, we can do either Breakfast, Dinner & Tea, or Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. It varies from family. When I was growing up it depended on whether we eat the largest meal in the middle of the day or in the evening. We would call it tea if is was a small meal/snack, but dinner if it was our main meal of the day.

Agree. Ireland born and raised parents, NYC. But we neved used rhe term Tea or High Tea (same as Tea, not aristocratic) for an evening meal. We called it supper. Dinner was a meal we had when hosting or visiting relatives or eating out. Dinner was longer, more options, more formal with coffee and desert choices afterwards. Desert was not served with supper. Dinner was formal in structure but relaxed socially. We did have tea at about 8:30 or 9 pm, with neighbors often joining. Simple sweets served, small sandwiches. No fuss. Brewed tea, no tea bags. Breakfast was simple, often cream of farina and an orange with bakery bread buttered toast.

In farming families long ago in Ireland we had 4 meals breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea. Long days working on the farm made this necessary. Up at 5 am. Finished at 7 pm. Needed extra food for energy

Depende lang sa tao kahit nong nasa atin pa ako hidi rin ako mahilig kong anong latest tingin ko kasi ang babaw lang kahit birthday lang sandamukal ang handa tapos isang araw nakalipas mangungutang na.it doesn't make sense where to put the priority first hand.been living in England for 21 years so and find life here is subtle and not a lot of show off people. Which is fine with me.

@@BoyetVentura there is a big culture gap in ireland between different groups and generations. when i asked my grandad what it was like growing up he described third world living conditions alot of the time and mentioned how most of his brothers left the country if they could to find work. he even grew up in fear of the black and tans coming to his families house and killing them which was probably brought on after hearing horror stories from the war for independance. same with my granmother who lost both her parents to tb ireland changed so rapidly traditonaly we were the poorest country in europe and every one of my mothers siblings spent most of there young lives outside the country its a shame thats happening again.

@@BoyetVentura yes in many ways at least economicaly and politicaly. socialy we arnt bad most irish people are known as freindly and up for a chat and actualy highly value hospitality and makeing people feel welcome. but with the housing crisis and our political parties ireland is going to a dark place unless there is change i just hope people dont push the blame to heavily on migrants because the irony would be to severe given our history as a nation of migrants.

Greetings Boyet. Here in the UK we also thank bus drivers. I bet they get fed up with this because they have to answer everybody. I never saw this in The Philippines but one time we were taking a bus (remains of a bus !) from Calapan to Roxas (Mindoro), quite a long ride, and at a rest stop the bus driver bought us a cup of coffee. Wow that was a first for me. Next thing, Boyet, I don't have an iphone and don't have any interest but I have no idea of the model of my Samsung smart phone. Never been interested but I know it cost about € 260, two or three years ago. So I don't think I'm materialistic. I like my home clean and comfortable of course but I am mostly interested in people and not things. How are you, Boyet ?

Hello! Glad to hear you had a good memory in the Philippines with your bus encounter, thats cool. It doesn’t happen in the more urban areas . And yes I find most people on this side of the world very reasonable and not under the spell of consumerism,that’s what I like about living in Ireland/ European side, I guess. The simplicity. im good Anthony, hopefully you’re recovered.

When I was in London they didn't thank the drivers made me homesick having no chat with strangers. It was the posh part though. Xx

My relatives in Ireland, with rural roots, but most living in Dublin or Limerick, do not say Tea. They say supper, a simple meal with plentiful food. They consider Tea, without animosity, an English leftover. Even the waelthy relatives are modest, polite, but unafraid to be assertive when it's called for (my very kind mother once opened a compliant wth the President of her mamjor corporation,, her employer, "You cheap bastard." The issue was resolved in her favor, ecause she reverted to her her funny, kind self. BTW, she barged into his office..Kind Irish people do not like being treated badly and will let you know to stop,

That "ehhhm". You're sounding like an Irish kabayan, lol. 1. That whitenning and tanning aspect is typical for Asian and European(and American) thing. Beauty standard kasi sa Asia talaga yung mas maputi, mas maganda while sa Europe at US, gusto nila ng darker. Why would you even notice their skin color? haha. 2. Using ma'am and sir is ALSO an Asian thing, while using first-name basis is also a Western thing. Even Africans use ma'am and sir. I used to work in local hospital too then switched to BPO. Thank you, Ireland is one of the top countries I'd like to visit someday since I love their artists, their accent and even the nature.

Interesting fact about not getting their money on iphones etc. Cause here in Greece they can have like iphone 14 pro max blah blah and not have 10E to top up lol. I'm actually doing my best to come over this year. Ireland looks awesome. I was lookign for the UK but visa makes it difficult. PS. Thanking the bus driver happens to the UK too, but last year when I visited bus drivers wherent that talkative. (In London at least.) So you should see the working hours in shops now in Easter (one of the reasons I want to get out lol). One more fact in Greece drivers are looking on the one side of the road the want to cross and they are not looking on whether a pedestrian want's to cross.. (Sorry I'm editing this as I go with the vid)

Ang mga na mention mo ay parehas din dito sa amin (Denmark 🇩🇰), except sa pag thank you sa bus driver kc hindi masyado nag thank you ang mga passengers, pero sa pang araw-araw na mga activities, often times sila nag thank you.

Ah talaga naja visit ja na dito sa Copenhagen. Wish ko rin maka visit both sa UK 🇬🇧 at sa Ireland 🇮🇪. Ang Scotland at Wales ba ay belong sa UK? Yes, true iba talaga dito sa Europe compare sa Pilipinas. Ako rin noon bago lang ako dito na au-pair (2002 - 2003), tinatawag ko ang host family na ma'am at sir (mga parents ng mga bata na inalagaan ko noon), tapos sabi nila sa akin 'wag ko daw sila tawagin na ma'am at sir, pangalan land daw nila itawag ko, noon una parang nag-aalanganin ako na tawagin sila ng mga pangalan nila, pero pinilit ko rin, tapos explain nila na hindi daw uso dito ang tatawag sila ng ma'am or sir. Sa mga company daw 'yong iba tatawagin daw ang babae na Fru (Mrs. in English). at surname ng babae for formality, pero ang mga lalaki walang formality na tawag sa kanila, tinatawag labg sila sa pangalan nila. Isa rin na culture shock, mayro'n ako dating ka trabaho na Pinay na Nurse, sabi niya noon mag start siya magtrabaho or intensive na clinical practice sa Nursing Home 🏡 na culture shock daw siya kc ang mga nurses dito ay tumutulong sa personal hygiene sa mga matatanda kung hindi na kaya ng mga matatanda for example ang personal hygiene kami ang tutulong sa mga matatanda. Sabi kc ng dati ko katrabaho na Pinay kc sa Pilipinas hindi gumagawa ng personal hygiene ang mga nurses, mayro'n mga Nursing Aide sa Pilipinas na siyang tumutulong sa mga personal hygiene or ang pamilya ay tumutulong sa mga love ones nila na admit sa hospital. Dito kc kahit Nurse ka kung pasyente (sa hospital) or mga matatanda (sa Nursing Home and Home Care) kung alaga mo, ikaw ang tutulong kc ikaw ang nakakakilala sa matatanda kung sa Nursing Home at Home Care at pasyente mo kung sa hospital.

Oo matagal na ako dito sa Denmark 🇩🇰, nag 21 yrs. na ako last December 22, 2023. 9 1/2 years na ako nagtratrabaho as a Social and Healthcare Assistant kung i translate ko in English, (Certified Nursing Assistant siguro ang tawag sa US at Canada). Nagtrabaho ako both sa Nursing Home at sa Home Care dati bago ako nagtrabaho sa hospital na ngayon nasa hospital ako. Bale nag 5 years na ako sa Infectious Diseases Unit dito sa hospital, 4 1/2 years ako before ( October 01, 2014 - March 31, 2019) sa "Bofællesskabet" (or The Housing Community kung i translate ko sa English) sa mga residents lang 'yon na may mga Dementia like: Alzheimer's, Lewy Body, Frontotemporal dementia, vaskular dementia and alcohol dementia.

Mas maganda talaga ma adapt yung foreign perspective, kasi dyan sila agad umangat at mas civilised sila kaysa sa mga 3rd world country na anduon padin yung ikaw mababa ikaw mataas.. yung inferior and superior mentality.

@@BoyetVentura yes not perfect but iv a relative living in dublin and everytime a visited i was glad to be on the train home it can be very ruff in the city centre somtimes work has that too but its not as severe plus its just more crowded
