The Full Cumbres! Well, at least the portion from Chama to Los Pinos! A complete compendium of my footage shot in 2018 that was fit to premier! Are there problems? Of course! But hey, it's in 4K which is 4x the K!
Ok, seriously though, this footage was shot over three visits from July to October of 2018 and features all the K-36 locomotives in operation currently (including 488 masquerading as long cold 483). Shots include the Chama Yard, Rio Chama Bridge, Lobato, Dalton, Cresco, Hamilton's Point, Coxo, Windy Point, Cumbres, Tanglefoot, and Los Pinos! Footage is shown non-chronological, but instead arranged by location starting from Chama New Mexico, and up over the summit to Cumbres finally turning back at Los Pinos Colorado.

A truly fantastic video of the C&TS. Love the composition of the shots. Even though the light was not in your favor, in some cases, you made it spectacular. Thanks for your efforts.

Decent cameras, in shape legs, nice research combined with your great skills make for a very enjoyable video. Rode it three times from Antonito to Chama in the Parlor Cars with a large group that filled the entire car plus more in the next car forward. 😀🤠

You definitely have an eye for composition. These shots are captivating! Major props on the timelapse you used to open the show. Did you use a motorized slider to get the slow crawl of the camera in that?

Yeah, it's a shame they only have 5 operating locomotives. ;-) 6 when the 168 is ready... +315 occasionally. Crazy!
@TucsonBillD
@TucsonBillD 5 жыл бұрын
@@fuscoproductions Not so bad... daily operations usually require 2 or 3 locomotives... one runs to Antonito, one returns to Chama, and a spare, which can be also utilized as a helper up Cumbres. It can then also undergo running repairs if necessary. And, of course, every locomotive requires a boiler wash out every month, which ties it up for a day, unless repairs are also called for. Four locomotives gives them a spare in the event of a breakdown. The K-27 gives them extra insurance, and more flexibility if required. And the 315 is generally not used for daily ops.
@fuscoproductions
@fuscoproductions 5 жыл бұрын
@@TucsonBillD I was being sarcastic to Nicholas' comment about them NEEDING more locomotives. They don't. But it's awesome that they continue to restore locomotives and allow guest locomotives (315) to run there.

Trying to work out just how many degrees apart are the pistons? One stroke against the other in other words? I'm going to guess about 170 deg.....

Anybody else cringe, when the dump-loader was dragging its blade across the load ?
@TucsonBillD
@TucsonBillD 5 жыл бұрын
Not really. The operator drags the blade across the load to level it out in the tender, saving the fireman some additional work when he's already busy firing up the 4%.

Wonderful visuals, but your curious habit of cutting scenes in the midst of a whistle signal make it very confusing for young railfans to learn rail operations, and for fans of the signals to hear how this engineer executes his signals. Please rethink your editing.
