Thank you so much. This will surely help me on our isl9 m3250... Same codes w/ poor engine performance. She "sneezes" under load then simmers down once she's up to driving speed till we get to pulling a hill. Great video!!

We bought an Ultrasonic machine to clean those parts, including the turbo, EGR valve, EGR cooler, EGR bloc.

Do you see the soot/oil stain coming out of the seam of the electronic motor/actuator side of the egr valve at 17:10? Is this not an indication that the valve has failed and should be replaced?

If the cooler is made from aluminum...just cut the face of the cooler off and do your cleaning from there, and if your like me make sure you have a tig welder to reweld the joint you cut out.

How did you actually clean it? What solvent? Did you use a wire brush or something? Do you have to make sure it’s dry??

I had some egr tune up solvent and a parts cleaning station, but if you’re a do it yourselfer, brake clean, a water hose, and something to scrub or scrape with should work. If you have some compressed air to blow it out with at the end that would be helpful but I wouldn’t be too worried about making sure it’s super dry. Do the best you can.

It was called “uview egr cleaner” from motorvac I do believe.

How did you clean the intake heater ?? no stuffs fall inside the housing ??

I mean anything that is on that intake heater is just what hasn’t past through YET. But you can imagine what has already been going into the engine. I used a shop vac and tried to vacuum out as much as I can. Just to try not to drop anymore stuff unnecessarily. Then I took a flat head screw driver, rag, and brake clean and just tried to clean it up the best I could.

@@alreyindustries did you notice more stuffs below all that ? I am preparing myself to do mine in the next couple of days... ( ISX15 400ST 2006). i do have codes about EGR out of calibration. Did you change the cooler because it was too dirty or because it was leaking ?? and the Turbo?? thanks alot Sir for your advises.

@@steevelaplante9432 no the intake heater is about as far as you can go without really disassembling a lot of stuff. I think in this situation I just cleaned the egr cooler. The cooler was not leaking it was just plugged with soot. The turbo I believe was passing oil so I think we ended up replacing that. You’ll have to figure out what is causing the problem when you get yours apart and take it from there.

Can a clogged egr cooler cause white smoke from the hood ? I had frequent regen issues until I cleaned the heater air intake and egr components but I did not clean the egr coole

Not likely. Are you still getting fault codes? Where is the white smoke coming from?

@@alreyindustries yeah I’m still getting a few codes, I’ll give em to you a little later, I’ve tried to detect where the smoke is coming from but i can’t tell, it smells like sulfur a little too much though usually covers the whole cab in smoke and horrible smell

Mainly just check engine light. I don’t remember if there were many other symptoms in this case. Sometimes if it gets bad enough it will cause power loss.

What if the EGR passages are clean there's no oil you've replaced the sensor and the EGR valve inspected the EGR cooler and cleaned it remove the intake and cleaned the grid heater removed the air filter inspected the cold air charge cooler and it still keeps setting the 3382 code? It's the only code I get. I wish someone could tell me exactly what the computer is looking for to set that code. How much pressure is there supposed to be at what EGR command at what RPM? We really need more information from Cummins and unfortunately they're not very forthcoming.

@@Ms125841 on this model engine the turbos were passing oil into the intake. There was a campaign or an ecm calibration that was supposed to correct the problem. However, this truck already had that calibration and was passing more oil than normal. The oil mixing with the return exhaust gasses is what causes the soot to get thick and sticky and clog everything up. So I replaced the turbo to stop the oil. If I didn’t see a lot of oil in the intake I wouldn’t have replaced the turbo.

@@alreyindustries yes, thank you! Is grid heater related to warming up the engine during cold weather! I have problem with heating up( it take for ever like 1 h to warm up) . Something is really off, even when I warm up when I stop temperature is going down faster then usually.

@@marconiki6302 it heats up the air for the intake, but it doesn’t have anything to do with the coolant if that is what you mean.
