Cunard Queen Mary 2 Cruise 2011 Part 17 Storm Force 11 & Fire. Sail out of the Gulf of St Lawrence into the Atlantic Ocean. The weather deteriorates during the day reaching Storm Force 11 on the Beaufort scale, 64-72 mph winds and 37-52 ft waves. Morning in the Commodore Club watching the weather, then retreat to our cabin in the afternoon as the weather worsens. A frightening but amazing sight. Crew alert during the Senor Officers' party due to a fire in the gas turbine up on deck 12 behind the funnel. Passengers are told to return to their cabins. We walk through the empty Britannia Restaurant passing the abandoned meals and the crew in their life jackets going to their muster stations. Fire is eventually put out and we go back to the party followed by dinner.

Hats off to Queen Mary 2. Those waves were small in the Commodore's Lounge, but they are large seen from your room.

Yes, this was our scariest experience in over 30 years of cruising. The weather became progressively worse during the afternoon. We couldn't stay in the Commodore Room as we couldn't deal with the motion of the ship! We had to retreat to our room on Deck 8 and even then our balcony was flooded. But QM2 coped admirably. We thought that was the scariest moment until the fire.

@@cruisevideomemories7439 But you all looked calm and pacified. The ship itself is very stable, which the waves didn’t bother you that much!

@@wellasang The ship was quite stable and manageable. It was the sight of the crew in their lifejackets which was disconcerting.

That captain was a cowboy. He took us once out of Boston into a hurricane while other ships stayed back.

Thanks for watching. This was our most scary experience in over 30 years of cruising. We thought that Storm Force 11 was the most concerning moment, - until the fire!!

I was amused at the 29.23 point where the sub title said 'Fire out, back to the party'. Some of us never left it and can be seen at 30.28 to 30.52 in the middle of the dance floor. Another good night on Queen Mary 2.

Thanks for watching, we love QM2 as well. Glad we were on a ship like her in a Force 11 storm.

Been on qm2 with same seas one may no probs except water coming in window at the casino she handles well as built to manage these conditions 😊 3:49

I’d be nervous seeing the crew in their life jackets, I’d have to make sure my flotational fur was securely fastened about my person 😆😆😆

It was quite unnerving to be at a cocktail party when the pagers of the Captain and officers went off and they all disappeared. The band stopped playing and left followed by the waiters. Then the waiters and kitchen staff returned wearing lifejackets. On our way back to our cabin through the restaurant, which was deserted with half consumed meals and drinks. it was almost like the Mary Celeste. Also the crew looked worried as there was a fire in a gas turbine vent and a Force 11 storm outside. We thought we were OK on a ship like the QM2, but we realized that was what they thought on the Titanic!

QM2 is not a cruise ship for young families in October in Canada. No water slides and lots of ballroom dancing and dressing smartly.

i do not think those life jackets would be much help if you ended up in the water in that weather.
