Very true, it annoys me when students AND STAFF say 'it's free' it's not free, you already paid for it, if you DON'T use it you're giving the school money for free.

Hunter can provide an awesome education. If you are a from the midwest, or some other suburban nightmare, you may be in for a shock. For people like me, a native new yorker, Hunter provides a great experience for those that want it. the graduate school is also great.

Exactly I agree. I’m all for the go go go mentality. For me, College is for an education to propel myself forward into a high paying career. I didn’t waste time with friends in high school so why would I do it now? I understand that humans are social creatures and that we need to talk to people to not feel alone from time to time, but some of these people that only want to go to college for fun kinda sound like babies to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

LOL, "suburban nightmare" love it. As a Brooklyn native, who now lives in the "nightmare" of the northwestern Bay Area suburbs, I salute your comment because it's 1000% REAL. I myself attended Hunter for two years taking classes after graduating from high school, and then applied to attend as one of my college choices for my Bachelor's. I ultimately chose to go out of state for college, but I will say this: Hunter has incredibly STRONG academics for a CUNY school, especially within the arts and in the sciences. A very good friend of mine from high school completed her B.S. in Nursing from the Hunter/Bellevue School of Nursing and she had a phenomenal experience at Hunter. It's an excellent institution.

Hunter college is no frills do it yourself kind of experience. No social life, bad cafeteria, quite crowded. Do you research before taking any class. Choose a tough professor and you will get excellent education. I did premed biochem major there and got into my dream med school. Importantly, quite often the med schools I interviewed at would mention that they know hunter and trust it's gpa and like hunter students a lot. Also it is very diverse and you will meet people from all over

I took classes at Hunter (& at Brooklyn College) for two "gap" years in between high school and college as part of the CUNY "Early College Initiative" program. Hunter is DEFINITELY a "commuter college" however, because it's right in Manhattan, and because it has excellent academics, it makes for a VERY dynamic and vital educational institution, where you CAN get an excellent and well-rounded college education. It's true that Hunter's dorms are not that close to the main campus (but that's part of the overall experience of going to Hunter) however they aren't that far away either. In the end, when I was finalizing my college applications during the Fall of my second "gap" year, I decided outright to apply to Hunter (and use my credits from my four ECI semesters towards my Bachelor's either there or at SUNY Purchase, where I'd also applied) as the one and only CUNY college I applied to in order to finish my degree. I didn't apply to Brooklyn because it was too close to home for me; and my parents taught there. In the end, I decided to move out of NYC entirely and finish my degree up at a small private liberal arts college in Massachusetts, BUT I don't regret having done so much in the CUNY system before going on to a private college. The CUNY system was a "thing" in my family: my Grandmother went to Hunter, my Grandfather had gone to City, and both my parents (who were VERY well-educated at the Ivy League level) taught at Brooklyn. The CUNY system has a lot of pluses and benefits, and you can get an amazing college education without "breaking the bank" through CUNY -- but I just wanted a huge change and a completely different undergraduate college experience.

I was in one of the first few classes of the CUNY Honors College and I chose Hunter because besides the free tuition, stipend, laptop, book check, and extra $1,000/year Peter Vallone Scholarship (which went in my pocket...not sure if they still offer it), they were the only school with dorms. It definitely wasn't a traditional college experience, but the dorms are in a great area (25th and 1st) and if u can't have fun in NYC, traditional college set-up or not, you're not gonna have fun anywhere. That being said, as I get older I'm starting to regret my decision. I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do in life (still not lol), and I didn't get as much out of college as I should have. If you know what you wanna do Hunter can be amazing. Like most CUNYs, the Professors are top notch and almost all of them teach at either NYU or Columbia (went to Baruch for my MBA and it was the same deal)...so you're basically getting the same education a lot of kids are getting at those schools for a fraction of the price...the facilities spent as good obviously but they're good enough and if you're driven and focused you can really learn a lot...not to say I didn't do well in school but like many 21 year Olds I was a bit lost...I prolly would have benefited more from getting out of the city (from Queens) and not having the safety net of my parents being a train ride away..

You get free printing in thomas hunter. Im a freshman and Im enjoying my time in hunter. College isn't supposed to be easy and smooth, i do have moments when i get stressed, but overall, if you use the resources that they offer, like the tutoring centers, you'll be fine.
