One minor correction: having 2 players actually DOESN'T give an advantage for doing double the damage. Playing 2 player doubles the boss's health.

Vorake the melancholy alan, is the new Crash Bandicoot rerelease really difficult? I know the old ps1games weren't that hard unless you tried to go for all the gems, but people have been talking up the new one, and I wonder if it's really more difficult.

@milosmisic89
@milosmisic89 6 жыл бұрын
@EarlnEarl The PS1 Crash game is probably the most difficult 3d children's platforming game ever made (you were younger and probably had way more free time and focus to beat it so you remember it like it was easy). Crash 1 was NES hard, required precision and memorization for the entirety of the game. Crash 2 toned it down and focused the difficulty only on optional stuff and Crash 3 had a bunch of different (and easy) playstyles so that it evened out with the harder Crash-centric levels. Still compared to all other platforming games like Spyro, Mario, Gex etc - Crash was ball-bustingly hard.

Cuphead is far from perfect. First and foremost, the game has severe pacing issues. Secondly, while the game excels at visual variety, it is quite lacking in gameplay variety even on a fundamental level. Thirdly, the difficulty curve is extremely inconsistent (usually dependent on how many randomized variables are introduced in a single fight). Fourthly, randomized variables do not mix well with fixed attack patterns and the game often puts the player in situations where it is very unlikely (sometimes even impossible) to not take damage. On top of that, the progress meter can be very deceptive in some circumstances. Also, the weapons, items, and even some of the game mechanics are poorly balanced (but that is just a minor issue). POSITIVE: On the other hand, Cuphead does have the best art direction that I have ever seen in a video game.

Reminds me of why I love the original Stuntman so much. Insane difficulty (most my friends can't get passed the first level), you basically have to perform an entire Hollywood car chase sequence all in one take, but after 50 tries when you get that moment of zen and hit every stunt perfectly, it is just so satisfying!

I bought Cuphead because of this video. And then I beat it, somehow. All I can really remember is that the last boss wasn't nearly as hard to beat as the one before him. That's the weird thing about Cuphead; the difficulty of the fights are pretty inconsistent. You're three worlds in and end up in a boss battle that is somehow easier than the ones on Island 1.
@russellmarch4983
@russellmarch4983 2 жыл бұрын
In that regard, I’d say the first question is whether the boss is actually easier than Isle 1, or if you’ve just gotten a lot better. But yeah Werner Werman is a bit of a pushover relative to his placement. Also, I’d say King Dice only feels harder than the Devil because of the length. Because of how the game works, King Dice requires such a constant amount of skill and concentration with little rest in each attempt, and an S-rank time can be as long as about 10 minutes!

Yahtzee's 100% right, when you finally beat a Bosshead in Cuphead it feels cosmically easy and effortless. Took me nine million(ish) brutal goes to defeat the zepellin witch during the early stages, but then one day I booted up and suddenly she just fell before me, without losing a single heart, and I got an A.

What makes Cuphead's difficulty so different from other games is simple: The developers are on your side. While Dark Souls and other "challenging" games revel in creating boss fights and levels that are meant to fuck with you, with attack patterns that cannot be predicted, environments that are ill-suited to your sluggish character movement, essentially creating boss fights that are only beatable by stocking up on healing items, Cuphead's bosses were clearly designed with a perfect idea of exactly what the player would have to do in order to defeat them. There is NOTHING in the game that cannot be dodged, parried, or shot, and the difficulty stems predominantly from having to multitask. Actually, some of my biggest gripes with Cuphead were when the game made it (for lack of a better word) too easy by making it too obvious what needed to be done. I loved the fight against the mouse in the soup can tank, for example, but I had to roll my eyes when he shot two pink springboards at me right before signaling a charge. But that's the appeal of Cuphead; the difficulty is 100% skill-based. I never once wondered what the hell I'm supposed to do in any given situation -- only if it would be within my capacity to actually do it. The only instance of artificial difficulty I encountered (an obstructive foreground) was in an optional "King Dice" mini-boss, and the only time I ever rage-screamed was at Dr. Kahl for his Stage 3 endless evil laughter. Plain and simple, Cuphead is a game that ENCOURAGES you to get better and to win. Now having played this, everyone at From Software is encouraged to hug a landmine.

Terastas Cuphead is far from perfect. NOTE: All of the issues I just named are not apparent in Dark Souls. In fact, everything you said about Dark Souls is simply not true. It makes me question if you have even played the game or if you are just shaming from ignorance. For example, if you played Dark Souls you would know that the bosses all have very consistent and recognizable attack patterns. You would also know that the environment is designed around the player’s movement abilities, even allowing the player to take advantage of the environment. Lastly, you would know that Dark Souls doesn’t even allow the player to stock up on healing items, so how can you “only beat the bosses by stocking up on healing items”? On the other hand, Cuphead does have the best art direction that I have ever seen in a video game. However, the design of Dark Souls is unquestionably better than Cuphead in almost every regard. The game design of Cuphead really feels like an amateur project which is in strong opposition to the fantastic art. The only thing that Cuphead does better than Dark Souls is player training.
@Terastas

Environment designed around the player's movement? What, you mean like the Capra Demon? I never said Cuphead was perfect. But it is a game that is everything it is deliberately and with consideration for the player. Every single boss can be defeated without the use of power-ups. I know this because I'm only two S-ranks away from proving it. Like I said: Cuphead wants you to feel like a winner. Dark Souls wants you to feel like its bitch.
