this is a very basic demonstration for beginners on how to throw a cup on the wheel. a cup pretty much razors down to being able to make a normal size cylinder, but with that comes a couple of rules.
most of my demonstrations are meant to help people get past they're beginners classes in college or school. in that same light I just wanted to go over what would not usually be accepted as a cup in the class of the I have attended.
_
we are very close to our final episode of the beginner stage which will be on throwing mugs.
then we can actually have some fun.
Edit: the audio may sound a bit funny in a few spots, the door was closed and it affects the sound.

So mature, informative and educational. :) I hope high schools will use your tutorials... You are talented, funny and entertaining. I love your original sayings.... like... "Potter Tip" and your sense of humor....... So, anything can be a "cup", but if you put a hole in the bottom... it's a planter............ ;}

Thanks for the disclaimer at the start of the video, otherwise I might have made myself look silly by coming at you with "But what about traditional sakazuki style sake cuuuuuuups, those aren't cylindeeeeers! Bligaaaargh!" ; ) Although if I were in your class, a sakazuki is probably exactly what I would turn in, they are just so beautiful and I can't stop myself from heading right for what I find most A E S T H E T I C when learning a new art.

Sorry this may not be a beginner question, but how do we get people to buy a cup? or beaker? or what ever you call them, a mug without a handle. I hate making mugs with handles. A cup like form, something to drink out of without a handle, it must be the most used beverage utensil in the home, often even made out of plastic, why would you drink out of that? The big question is how do we get people to buy a cup ???????

You probably have a whole years worth of consumer info now but I would say I don’t gravitate towards cups because they feel too heavy and don’t hold enough liquid. This is because if I want a glass of water I’m going to want more water than I would say coffee or tea. Also you drink water differently than a hot drink. I hold the mug and drink at a different less laborious angle than I would a cold drink of that makes sense.

Hi. How much earth do you need for a cup? 300 gms? Thank you
@EarthNationCeramics
@EarthNationCeramics 8 ай бұрын
A normal teacup is about 300 g, yes I would suggest starting with about 500 or 600 g though if you're a beginner just to get a hold of the weight. You also end up trimming a little bit of clay off but once you get proficient at throwing it takes around 300 g.

So where do you drink your espresso from? Huh? HUH?!! If it's "I don't drink espresso" or "shotglasses", then it's a total frowny face from me. A TOTAL FROWNY FACE!!! :((( Small cups are cups, yo! Ok, I'm not actually that keen on the taxonomy of ceramics. Great content, keep it up!
