Jello salads were so popular because in the past gelatin was very hard to make. Only the rich could afford to serve it. It was a very high status symbol to have on your table. Then a man named Knox started making dry gelatin from cow hooves, a by-product of the tanning industry in Gloversville NY. So now anybody could have gelatin. Mr. Knox became very wealthy and endowed his home city of Johnstown, NY with many donations and buildings. Gloversville was known as the Glove manufacturer to the world in it's day. My Mother worked in a Glove factory there that made the gloves for Queen Elizabeth on her Coronation.

I though how someone made the charm bracelets of their travels, and now they're just in a pile. Who was that? What were they like? Did they go those places before plane travel was common? Breaks my heart. And the engagement ring and wedding band - how could that be lost to the family. My grandmother's is lost due to some blended families and poorly written wills and it kills me.

I agree, Gary Roberton. The collector had them carefully separated into different categories from what I could tell, Canadian travel, International travel and the third looked like unique ones, perhaps events? It is very nice that she kept to the sterling silver standard. :)

I have a BIRKS silver charm bracelet exactly like the first one show, I’ll have to count the charms, it is so loaded, I can’t even wear it. It’s 59 years old. I remember pretty much all the charms and when my parents bought them and where they travelled. I have some pretty unique charms. One is a pineapple from Hawaii. The body of the fruit is almost like a basket weave, so you can see through it. Inside are green fossilized lava pieces. That one was from 1972 or so. Charms back then were so detailed and well made.

I get to sort through the jewelry hoards we get donated at the Thrift Shop where I volunteer 💖 It’s so much fun! Even if it’s just junk from the 80s :) We research the brands we don’t know and I’m surprised by How much I have learned. We will repair the broken stuff and create some new “pieces” from the pieces… if all else fails we make junk bags for crafters.

Brings back many memories of helping my grandmom sort out her auction finds. Sometimes at estate sales there would be boxes and boxes for about 5 to 10 dollars. Full of little things. I guess families of these Estate sales did not realize sometimes small things can be worth more than that knock off dinning set lol. Or the print of Renoir. But nowadays there is the internet and people can look such items up . My grandmom once had a Chipndale couch. Very rare . They did not make them often.
