@guilhermecastro45532 жыл бұрын
Well... screaming lol. A lot of singers can use distorted vocals to hit the high notes. Even the drummer uses this technique, and he uses a lot. Kurt didnt do nothing much special there.
@jimijames272 жыл бұрын
@@guilhermecastro4553 It’s really more the quality of what he was doing. I understand the premise of false cord vocalization but I mean who since Kurt has really achieved that kind of sound as consistently as him? I was pretty impressed with the guy from Seether doing a Nirvana cover.
@guilhermecastro45532 жыл бұрын
@@jimijames27 well, dave grohl, corey taylor, chester bennington, matt bellamy, all the vocalists from the great grunge bands like pearl jam and soundgarden. That's the few ones i can remember. If you listen to more bands, you will see that kurt was just kinda "special" at composing.
@jimijames272 жыл бұрын
@@guilhermecastro4553 The closest you mentioned is Chris Cornell. Even Dave Grohl comments on Kurts ability to vocal fry and distort. If you watch more interviews with Dave maybe you will see it. As for Matt Bellamy of Muse he rarley uses vocal fry or distortion. He utilizes distortion generated by overdrives in his mixes like in the song Drones or Hysteria. Chester definitely had a unique grit but it was more of that Nu Metal style I still say Kurt had something he was doing that was unique. I only say this because I grew up in the 80's/90's when through a Nirvana phase while Kurt was alive, abandoned them in the 2000's and then have recently seen the unique qualities in the last couple of months again. I think they were trying to sound bad more than good most of the time but I can still appreciate Kurts ability to boil gravel as Dave Grohl put it.
@guilhermecastro45532 жыл бұрын
@@jimijames27 you have a point, kurt had a natural talent in therms of screaming, but he wasnt even the best screamer in his band. If you listen to foo fighters, you will see that dave is a phenomenal screamer even better than kurt, with no lessons either.

Let's break a lance for Pat Smear here, he filled out the sound so well, doing the high riffs during "Very Ape." and it's also clear that he brought the Fun back with the band. Or as Dave put it "He made us feel like kids again."

The last great Nirvana show. This is the last time they actually played together where Kurt was actually trying. The first leg of the tour was more glamorous Western European cities and I think Kurt’s heart went out of it when they were about to go into the Eastern European Gulag right after the wall fell. He would not be able to find drugs anywhere in that place and time, or at least it would be extremely dangerous. Most of the last tour was the same Setlist over and over again. I think if they would’ve played different songs every night, or at least throwing a couple of new songs in at every show, it might’ve made things a lot more fun for Kurt. It was a mistake just trying to plow through the tour like that with no drugs.

Krist is such a good bass player I love his fills. For some reason I have always found it hard to hear the bass in nirvana songs, but when I find a version of a song that has the bass loud, I'm 9/10 times pleasantly surprised by his inventive basslines and fills and how good they compliment the drums and guitar. Very good bassist, right from the start, a natural.

A lot of people in the comments I read don't think that the last tour sounded so good, that Kurt wasn't at his best....but I disagree....kickass setlists, powerful passionate performances, and like Nirvana does best...nothing is supposed to be perfect. I love the live shit from 94, they really had a lot of life left in the box, weather or not Kurt took a break in 94 or not, they had more to offer at some point for sure. You can see they were kicking serious ass here. Great setlists in Europe. I never wished I was in the 60s to see those bands, but I do wish I could have seen Nirvana just once.

Damn, very ape looks like a ridiculous song to play rythmn guitar & sing at the same time! Specifically the verse. Kurt doesn't get enough credit for his guitar playing. Yea, it's not technical or super complicated, but his feedback sense/manipulation, ability to play & sing, even w/rythmn parts that don't always follow the vocal melody (like this song or negative creep for ex.) If you try it, you'll find it's not that easy. You have to work at it. Also, his mistakes still had a way of fitting in to the song- both vocal or on guitar. Kurt was def a full musical talent!
@nosedondeelmarsetermina5 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY. Combination of playing and singing at the same time and the effectiveness of his melodies. As a guitarist and singer myself, I had to learn how to play amd sing Drain you at the same time because of how quick and the amount of frets you have to slide. Playing and singing these songs are not just baseline talent that everyone has it took me months to learn to play and sing Drain you.
