sad flood had to take the hit so the rest and future baseball players could flourish.

On a side note....Bobby Tolan of the Padres had also not signed his contract at the beginning of the 1975 season...but he was swayed in June of that year by new owner Ray Kroc; leaving only Messersmith and McNally...but Dave McNally retired in mideseason; leaving only Andy Messersmith...who was signed by new Braves owner, Ted Turner to a three year contract...but then Messersmith injured his back in 1977 and was out of baseball shortly afterwards

What messes me up about this whole story is how the public in general is so insanely, determinedly oblivious to the questions, "Hey! Never mind what Flood is saying for the moment. Just exactly WHERE does all the money go that the game itself makes? What are 'the cuts,, so to speak? What do the accounting books say? How much does the owner make and tell me again what position he plays? What'd he hit last year?" (Okay, that's a bit much but to never ask oneself where the value of the game COMES FROM is ignorance beyond measure...the players ARE the game. NO HIGH CALIBER PLAYERS; NO HIGH QUALITY GAME. AU REVOIR TV CONTRACTS...)
