My dad bought a used Curtis Mathes from his boss, much to the disapproval of my mother! The first thing we watched on it was an ABC Tuesday Movie of the Week...The Night Stalker, with Darren McGavin! A very magical and scary night!

Curtis Mathis always flaunted its four year warranty, and that its quality would assure it lasted longer. But the TVs costly price was its undoing as competitors were making smaller sets that were more affordable. This may have been the Benz of TVs back then, but most people cannot afford a Benz.

I have a Curtis Mathis vacuum tube pulled from an old TV that I use in my amp. It sounds great.

He's Curtis Mathes Jr. His old man started the company. Curtis Junior died two years after this commercial. He was on an Air Canada flight that caught fire and he was unable to escape after the plane landed in Cincinnati.

Their latter years marketing gimmick consisted of heavily jacking the prices of rebranded foreign electronics up, selling consumers on their own extended warranty. Clever, but you weren't getting anything better.
