Mate Having done a similar total strip to the last nut an bolt and rust remediation some 25 years ago on a neglected FJ 45 I can fully appreciate the effort and magnitude of this rebuild. Great job undertaken and patience in restoring a classic 4WD.

Great job Richard, wow an all steel roof, boy o boy are they hard to come by now, guard it with your life mate. At least doing the entire cab floor you can now build a PROPER custom bolt in trans tunnel cover to suit, make it removable as well !! That's such a good job on the bead rolling, don't underestimate yourself Buddy, back yourself. 15mins looking at this angle it gives you great perspective for the center console fridge setup too. Making space for self trans removal is a brilliant idea. Actually with the back part of trans cover you could incorporate the console fridge mount Great, well thought out job Richard. I'm glad you kept the kick panel side vents they are so handy at times. Excellent vid mate, what about those do it yourself bed liner kits, are they more affordable. Seeya Rob

Yer I agree with the others about painting it yourself, I painted my cab with rattle cans and it came out great, as long as you prep well sand well it'll come up good, just don't go gloss, I went a satin finish

Amazing work, honestly have a go at painting in the driveway or garage, unless it’s a good paint booth and your prep is perfect it won’t make that much difference. Have you even considered raptor liner or similar for the cab, seems to hide many imperfections and should take the bush rash better
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt 2 жыл бұрын
I would be willing to give the tray/guards a go. Just not so keen on doing the cab. I would like to use raptor liner on the underside of the floor, not keen on the look for the exterior paint.

Next time have a go at using the Tig to repair your sheet metal. I have no doubt with your skill you’ll figure it out mate plus you end up with so much nicer of a repair. Killing it though mate, I’ve been lovin the build vids

Thanks Anton, I had a quick go at it and found the patch panels needed to be a much better fit up to fusion without filler. There was just so much to do the MiG seemed like the quicker option at the time. I would be keen to try it again at some point though!

@@DesignedandBuilt no worries at all mate, I’m a panel beater by trade and that stuff is good for inside panels that can’t get painted after it’s welded but it really shouldn’t be painted over, I find it just tends to peel off when it is

I got one FJ45 already, it was my pick up truck dream since a was a teenager back in 1993. I'm in the process of painting the FJ 45 The weatherstrip or the rubber seal are behind in the cabin one between the rubber seal of the front windshield and another in the roof. I got a 1978, Maybe they implemented this rubber seals in different years since the model is basically the same. Just wonder, thanks

You know your shed/garage is more than ample to do a good paint job in, cover up all the stuff you don't want paint overspray on with plastic sheets and hose the floor down with water, use a good quality 2pac paint such as ppg, spiesheckler or the like, any blemishes can be sanded out and buffed up if required, than after a month or 2 techole in all the cavities, that way the panels are sealed inside out, 1 of my tradies is a spray painter
@DesignedandBuilt

Cheers Michael, gives me some confidence!! I’m considering it for sure.

With painting the chassis, couldn't you do it at home in the shed? Spray can job? Or buy/borrow a compressor off someone? As the chassis will not be seen much and it'll always be covered in dirt and road grime
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt 2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, yeah I have a compressor and I’m willing to do the chassis/tray/ all the other small parts. The cab is pretty involved and I don’t want to mess it up! Worst case I’ll just give it a crack though!

Paint it yourself mate. You have tried to do everything else and succeeded. And you don't need a paint booth. Builders plastic and make your own. The overspray will stick to the plastic. Nice hot day. Spray it about 3-4 pm in the arvo....After the car has sat in there all day
