Stopped in at the dugout bait and tackle down in marietta georgia so that my Hobie pro angler 14 360 was in good hands. I had been wanting to run Garmin Livescope on my kayak for the last few years, but with the separate transducer, wires, and limited space, I knew it would take some creativity. I am really happy with how this turned out! Let me know what you guys think!

This video just helped me immensely. I been running a echomap plus 93sv on my pa14 past 2 seasons…..and been having issues with marking a spot, then circling back around….and boat is all over the place compared to spot. So i thought it was a setting or user error--2 weeks ago at dale hollow i spent 4 hours trying to get it right on a submerged rock pile i marked……..and the whole time im an idiot---missing a piece. But in my defense, ive never had a really nice fish finder or bass boat or anything with gps locator. Now i know!! Thanks kristine!! It’ll help me out for pickwick bos!!!

And he talked about. How he still likes to upgrade his electronics. Steve explained in that episode. He wanted a transducer. I was wondering. What is a transducer? At least I've seen one now.

Yeah, I fished a kayak tournament this weekend and I refuse to get a motor or the 3d sonar on my yak. I have a bass boat for all that. I kayak fish for the simplicity and exercise. My yak and gear are over 100lbs but I just haul it in the back of my truck. I have a Perception Outlaw 11.5. Again...if I need a trailer...might as well just fish from my bass boat. That Hobie fully rigged out with a motor, the livescope, and a trailer probably runs you $13-15k or (or more).

OK. So now I am going to bite the bullet and get a trolling motor for my yak. If I want to compete, I have to be able to make more casts. I have a paddle kayak....so, in wind and in general, I am not able to make the number of casts or cover enough water to consistently finish in the top spots for in-person kayak bass fishing events. It sucks...but that is reality. I am sure that the fish finder with mapping and high definition is a must for high level competition too. I don't really think the live sonar is necessary but it helps to give you an edge for sure.
@patrickt1087

So I ordered my trolling motor, 100ah lithium battery, Navi lights, and a Garmin UHD 93SV. The wind just kills me every event I have entered. Plus, during the winter and hot summer...critical to find baitfish or offshore structure. Yep...I caved. I am just landing and unloading my Outlaw 11.5 in and out of my truck bed though. I will remove battery and motor each time I have to load it to keep it manageable. Otherwise, I would need a trailer too. I already use a cart that makes it a breeze. Still pricey though. 😁

@@kristinefischer2289 It was either Seth Fiedel or Scott Martin made a point. I heard. Not that long ago. That eventually, all anglers. Will find themselves. On a water. Where they haven't got any preset way points, or marker points. Ready to just input. Into their electronic instuments (I think it was one of them, who explained that modern generations of anglers almost 'expect' to have these sign posts). Which point the way for them. To the right places. On a certain water. To locate fish at. And it's become. A thing that is expected now. Amongst younger anglers. I don't know. If that is the case or not.

What I would go back to. Is something that a Louisiana 'salt' water angler (fishes for saltwater drum in the Mississippi estuary and surrounding coastlines). Said about the 'popping cork' technique. That is often used down there. The problem with the popping cork. Is that the attention or focus. Narrows in. To just watching and looking at the cork in the water. And he argued. That he prefers. Much prefers. To use various hard plastic 'active' retrieve style bait lures (of which he uses numerous different kinds, designed to search and probe at various depths in the saltwater tidal zones). While working from his 'skiff' style boat there. Some of the bait lures. Are designed to be taken. As they swim down from above. More are designed to be taken by fish. As they swim up from below. And various kinds of other lures.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
He explained. That you can catch those saltwater drum (trout in saltwater), fish. Using the popping cork. As a sytem though. Of fishing. It has the one huge draw back. That it makes him lose. Contact with the surroundings. The other signs and signals. That he must 'take in'. When fishing as a angler. That he only receives. To his perception. If he is fishing. With a system of fishing. That enables him. To take a much wider focus. Than getting caught in that trap. Of constantly watching the popping cork. On the water. Where he loses. Connection to the wider picture. Of what is happening. Around him. It could be a change in the weather. The flight of birds. The changing of the tides. A piece of coastline. A change of depth. It could be anything. He said that a wider focus. Is the most important skill. To develop in his fishing sport. And you can't have it. When your zoned into one particular thing.

I get your point, but the way I see it, bass boat guys have them, what’s the difference ? Especially if a guy can’t afford a 50k bass boat he can get a kayak and rig it out to his desire and still be well under 10k. The competitive kayak scene is exploding, and often times we are using the exact same gear as the boat guys. I don’t see an issue there!

@@kristinefischer2289 The electronics on kayaks will evolve separately to boats as times goes on. They will diverge from each other. The cost of not having electronics on a kayak. Is that you can get very close to fish (much closer than in a boat). And still not know. They are bass within feet. Of where you are. It's different with electronics for bass boats. You're trying to cast a wider signal (the boat won't be able to access the small places a kayak can). However, a bass boat can cover more 'acreage' of water using electronics. And give the boat angler. A larger picture of where shoals are. A kayak is never going to have that. So the electronics on the kayak. Are there for different purposes. For example, having worked into a small, awkward shallow area or back waters. Using a kayak to navigate. At that point. It would be a shame. Not to be able. To leverage the advantage. By 'not' being able. To scope out these smaller area. More thoroughly and efficiently. For activity and fish presence. Using electronics.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
Even if the electronic. Just tells (the kayak angler). Who has navigated to that awkward to reach back water area. It has no fish in it. That's still. A useful diagnostic. The real test of all of this. Is that commercial trawler fishermen. Have had all kinds of sophisticated electronics, satellites and maps. For years and years. To cover millions of acres of water. In the saltwater. To find where the shoals are located. And still. Even with the assistance. Of all of that. They can still find things. Pretty hard going. A bass boat. Has huge capacity. To store batteries. To power the electronics (compared to a kayak). However, when I see bass boats. With all of the engine power, and electronics capabilities. That they have. Try to defeat. The ninety miles worth of St. Lawrence river competition water. And they are still frustrated. In their efforts. To consistently locate the fish. It really shows one. How hard this can be.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
The 'third' day weights of catch. On the recent 'MLF' bass tournament circuit St. Lawrence river event. Really reinforced the point to me. Many anglers caught decent weights (over twenty pounds). On day one. Very few on day two. And on day three of that 'four day' tournament. Some great anglers returned. With a single fish caught. Having made the 'top 50' cut. To get into day three. Of that tournament. I mean. Those top fifty anglers. None of them. Were anything but excellent bass boat anglers. And some came back. From a huge body of water. With a single small mouth bass. In their big bass boat. That must be frustrating. To say the least. And it happened. Some anglers. Who were eliminated on day two. With only three or four fish caught. Thought they had bad experiences. However, they were only spared. What happened to some. In that last fifty anglers. On 'day three'. Who had to fish all day long. For a single bass. And that is. With all of the gadgets to boot.
@academicmailbox7798
@academicmailbox7798 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's safe to say. That bass boats. Still have not got. To the stage of 'self driving' motor vehicles. No one has cracked the code absolutely yet. And to be honest. I'm at a loss myself. As to why bass angling. Ought to be that difficult. But it turns out. That it really is. The experts just make it look easy. But apparently. It's not.
