Ken Kelly, owner of Mag-na-Port helps Gabe customize his dad's old Ruger Super Blackhawk revolver in .44mag. Working alongside Ken, the gun is re-crowned, velvet finished, pins and screws polished, trigger and hammer jeweled, cylinder numbered and honed, barrel ported, forcing cone lengthened, timed, trigger job and limited edition grips installed. Gabe's dad's name is also etched into the barrel. In the end, it comes out looking incredible and shoots like a dream.
If you'd like more info on Mag-na-Port's custom services, check out their website at www.magnaport.com.

I pray we are pumping out knowledgable young smiths that are not onlt skilled in new technologies but are open to learning from men like this. The most important thing I can say for young people to do is relinquish your pride. There's always room to learn and tips to pick up

Absolutely beautiful...They did an old Ruger 44 flat top for me in 1977 then I sent it off to Armaloy. Loved that gun, took a few deer with it. But...someone else liked it more than I did and made off with it and other stuff from my home. They do fine work there at Magna Port.

I sent them a 14 inch 44 mag Contender barrel in the early 80's and they rechambered it for the 430 JDJ. It was sure a handful. I always enjoyed the JDJ series of cartridges. They use the die sinker form of EDM. I have used wire for years in my job. Think I would have jeweled the whole hammer surface. It helps carry a film of oil for lubrication. Also never seen a mill used to crown a barrel before. Guess if it is indicated in it would work.

Comparing this with videos of the S&W Performance Center is quite a shock. S&W PC practices seem fairly crude in comparison with the excellent work done by Mag-na-port. Back in the 1990s I had a S&W 586 with 6" barrel, that was Mag-na-ported and with an action job. Excellent work. I remember first reading about Mag-na-port back in the 1970s and it was a treat to fire a gun improved by their craftsmanship.

It’s a great little cartridge and perfect for kids. If you live in an area that allows straight walled cartridges, you may want to consider a .350 legend as well. It’s a flatter shooting cartridge and does an excellent job on deer sized game.

@FullQuiverOutdoors
@FullQuiverOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
No, I shortened it to get rid of the screw hole for the front sight. Only took off a little barrel length and now have a clean barrel. On some of my other revolvers, the front sight hole is just left plugged and the barrel is recrowned at the same length. With the long barrel, I had plenty to work with and still maintain the longer look from the original gun

I have a super blackhawk that has been drilled for a scope mount. Ruger says its unsafe bc of the holes. Can you shed any light on this?
@FullQuiverOutdoors
@FullQuiverOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure why they would deem it unsafe? Lots of S Blackhawks are drilled for scope mounts. I’d ask them to explain. Unless the gunsmith did something unconventional and messed it up, it should be fine.
@aarondalton2223
@aarondalton2223 3 жыл бұрын
@@FullQuiverOutdoors Its an older new model that I bought second hand. The holes look fine and no doubt they have seen some rounds. Ruger says it's their policy that drilling and tapping any SBH renders the top strap weak and unsafe to shoot. If you send in one that's been drilled they wont work on it.

Ken Kelly is a down to earth good man. He doesn’t do action jobs any more just installs Wolf springs. But my most treasured 44 magnum was a 5.5 inch barrel Redhawk he ported and did an action job and numbered the cylinder. I sold it to raise money to run for office. I won the Republican primary three times but could never beat the Democrat incumbent. 😢

It’s a shame to kill an animal just for the trophy
@FullQuiverOutdoors
@FullQuiverOutdoors 6 ай бұрын
Who the heck does that? You have no idea what you’re talking about. We eat about 5-6 deer a year as a family. I don’t know anyone who kills animals just for a “trophy”. That’s ridiculous. A trophy is defined as “memorial of a victory”. When I shoot a doe, I keep the meat and when my family has venison chili during the cold Michigan winter, yes, we remember the hunt when I took that deer. So yes, I am a trophy hunter but in a completely different way than you think.
