In my experience relay and contactor contacts have grime too tough to be cleaned this way from arcing.

We're repairing it after 40 years, you don't have to do this all the time on these, we're just doing it's once every 40 years preventative maintenance :)

Unfortunately I don't get too many Gottlieb's in, I was just thinking about that earlier, I don't know why that is. It could be A. they didn't make as many of them (I don't think that's it) or B. They still all work so nobody sells them or has me fix them (I wouldn't think that's it) or C. they're more desirable to collectors, so the collectors have already bought them all up around here (that may be it) I'm sure I'll get more in but I don't have any in the queue , I do own a few that are complete basket cases that will come in eventually. I have a rusted up old "Grand Slam" that they repainted the entire playfield with chalk paint on (I THINK it will come off.....).... and I may have another one or two somewhere. I really like the Gottlieb's too, I like all of theirs even the System 80 and System 1, System 3 stuff. Love it.

@@LyonsArcade up I can say that whenever I’ve completely done a Gottlieb woody or wedge head, they have never given me an once of trouble. They are 100 per cent reliable, and are indestructible with normal care. Pinball is a result of 2 opposing forces: on one hand the companies needed them to be cheap cheap cheap …. on the other hand they were designed to never break down. a broken pinball makes no money, so the makers tried very hard to make them go forever. That’s why so many have survived all these years, often with no help or servicing. They remain one of the marvels of the 20th century. Power to you, Ronnie.

It will be a project...taking a gottlieb '65 flipper pool. And turning it into a sailor jerry pinball(midwest pinball made for sailor jerry co.)! Only 3 were made of this style! When I moved into the house I live in, wayyyy back in the day, a guy came by to welcome us to the neighborhood while we were moving in. That kind of stuff doesn't happen much anymore, but this was in the 90's. Anyways, the guy was standing in the living room while stuff was moving in and out and he was talking wrestling, he mentioned he was Ole Anderson, you know, Arn's brother, boy don't you watch wrestling? I told him I did but I never watched the Four Horsemen (I was young and we'd just moved to Charlotte back then). I had Ole standing in my living room, LOL I'll have to tell that story in a video some day.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting any pro wrestler especially the grouchy old man of wrestling Ole in the flesh even though I have been a fan since childhood. I must say Ole in my book was one of the best promo guys and talkers in the biz along with the Nature Boy Ric Flair and a select few others such as the manager Jimmy Cornette.

I never had the opportunity to mess around with elevators but I can see where the mechanisms to run them to the different floors, open the doors, etc. would be really interesting!

The ones I have use about 125 relays per car for 8 floors, almost all are identical 3 pull double throw. They call it an ice cube tray. It has one 8 'bit' register for the car calls and two 7 'bit' registers for the up and down calls. Some doubled-up relays (coils connected in parallel). Positioning was done with a car-top selector 'follower' driven by small cables in the shaft. I got a good look the controller while it was still in service, 30 years and going strong... except not for the hydraulic pumps. The pistons did leak and the pumps would starve and destroy themselves. I think I heard 8 floor hydraulic elevators are not common for a reason.

It's a real issue!

Those four blades are connected (on some they're not all connected together though) but the whole purpose of it is, when you turn it, it's now connected to something else. The traces don't go all the way around, some of them change every step. So think of it like say, a plus sign on the board. When the spider is connecting those four spots together, you're sending power to the 1st players score reels.... Then it turns one spot, and now the plus sign is touching four different spots, that have different wires going to them. So now the power is connecting to the 2nd players score reels. So it's different on every stepper, but you may have 1 of the spider legs always touching the same trace, it goes around the whole board in a circle. that might be ground. Then the other three legs (or 8 legs, however many there are) touch other spots that are now connected to ground, through that one leg that's always on ground. When it turns, the ground is now connected to other wires because of how the stepper unit is wired up. Thanks for watching TreadwellJay!

@@LyonsArcade Especially on the old gear. New stuff it doesn't seem to phase, but you get into that 1970s equipment and it just isn't worth it. Learned my lesson. :) At least I could still get speaker output blocks of that size. :)

I've seen some brands of old audio and radio electronics which have potentiometers that can't be cleaned by spraying with any known control cleaner ---- the pots simply freeze up. If they're really bad you have to take them apart and polish the tracks and commutators; otherwise, just exercise the pots back and forth 50+ times and hope they clean up somewhat. By the way I have seen cans of electronic contact cleaner that on one secrion of the label, the can will say will say "cleans and lubricates" but elsewhere on the can it'll say " leaves no residue".

@@LyonsArcade a 6v bulb in series with another load will no blow. 53v supply with a 6v relay is 47v across the coil. Ohms law is applicable. However, If the 6v bulb was in parallel, then he, that would have blown the bulb, possibly violently. Sorry, this was more aimed at Yu Wish.

So the score motor spins around and between each home position, it has certain bumps on the cams that make things happen. some spin around faster than others, so if it has 1 2 or 3 home positions it doesn't really matter, it just means that it makes the counting or the action happen faster or slower depending on how it's set up. There's only the 1 reset relay, the home position can be any of three positions though. Imagine the wheel that turns split into three equal parts, It doesn't really matter what part you're on they all do the same thing as they spin, and it's the same distance from one home position to the next, and the same things happen. @@LyonsArcade thanks for the help, I just don't understand why the designers would SPLIT the wheel into 3 equal parts instead of using a Non-Split Wheel with only one home position. I'm confused about who one designer would choose to use the SPLIT while 3 home positions compared to using 1 home position. I know that the 3 home position wheel was a #1 home position that has the reset relay.

I often wonder what we missed out on ourselves, i'll bet the generation before us saw the same thing happen, not sure if it was worse or less worse but I believe more and more that the most free people ever were was a long ways back before today.

I don't know if this applies but I'm one of those people that were required to say the pledge of allegiance at school. To us, it was just a meaningless chant until one of the teachers got tired of us just mouthing the pledge and explaining what we were supposed to be doing. Pledging allegiance was something that was supposed to be done from the heart. It was a daily affirmation of being American and supporting our system of government. After that, most of us understood what an oath meant. We were a bit more spirited about the pledge as we said it and affirmed our trust in government. The kids nowadays are just like us back then before we were made to understand what we were doing. They don't understand the meaning behind the words that they're mouthing and it's just a meaningless ritual. They don't have anything concrete to latch on to keep them steady while the ground under their feet has turned to unstable mud. Whoops! I just ranted. Sorry about that!

@@15743_Hertz We used to the same thing in Australia as late as mid 80s. We sang the national Anthem, Advance Australia Fair, and also feel like we recited a pledge bit can't find it. As a child it was meaningless. It wasn't due to not knowing the words, but more not knowing What it means. You try to explain it to a six year old. Edit: Found it. It was a Victorian primary school thing and called the Patriotic Declaration. I love God and my country, I will honour the flag, I will serve the Queen and cheerfully obey my parents, teachers and the law. It probably was discontinued due required separation of state and religion.
