There aren't many repair videos on plastic riveted keyboards, so it will be very useful.

It's a big pain replacing that kind of keyboard.

I have replaced a few keyboards. I found the best way was to carefully heat the plastic rivets at about 150C with hot air and pull the keyboard away carefully using a large screwdriver to lever it away. There should be a list of riveted keyboard laptops somewhere so that people don't make the mistake of buying that cheap crap lol

If he wants to replace the keyboard, i did not see a cable for the keyboard backlight, but the motherboard did have a connector for it. marked "KB BL" Keyboard Backlight. For a small price, that upgrade is nice.

DCSE here - the keyboard would come integrated into the palm rest. You would need to get a palm rest with the keyboard already installed. Replacing the keyboard itself on that model is a huge pain and not worth it. Generally the palm rest is relatively inexpensive.

Yes Sorin please would be nice a keyboard replacement video. And if you got time just for curiosity, i would be nice taking the old keyboard a part just to see what went wrong and even better would be taking some serial readings while its faulty and when its fixed. Definitely need a video on replacing this kind of keyboard - we have loads of these type of keyboards at work and we always have to replace the whole top assembly, the last one cast us just under £100 (but still cheaper than us buying a whole new laptop). I wasn't even aware you could buy just the keyboard without the whole assembly?

Post the video sorin about the keyboard replacement. The plastic things (rivets) are annoying. We just hot glue it after because the plastic is hard to take off in proper shape 7/10 times.

Sorin, in the US the palmrest with keyboard is available for about $20. I would replace the palmrest.

This is a standard procedure on all the laptop repairs I've tried. Before doing anything else, I unplug the keyboard ribbon cable and test again if it's coming on.

Hey Sorin can you tell me where you purchased you .5X c-mount microscope camera adapter at? Here in the United States all of the adapters on Amazon are counterfeit they all are .40X/.45X knock offs that make the image on my RT5109 like staring through a tunnel. I purchased a real one many years ago and I’m using that on my first camera which is also a RT5109, but I have a second set and now I need an additional one, but I am having no luck. I have purchased from four different vendors, and there are three different counterfeits of the same lens which is crazy. They are all a slightly different size than my original. Even the vendor that was selling the original is not anymore on Amazon.

Satellites monitor the laptops. One missing key can cause the whole trouble. Wiping can cause malfunction if a pressure sensor is under the keyboard. Asus laptops have pressure sensors, after time the cover shrinks a bit. Then the laptop will always shut down. In cars, helicopter, during plane takeoff the Asus may shut down. I noticed a G sensor too, as the laptop is moved, can cause shutdown.

Amusingly awesome as usual lol. There is very little between the tracks of these mebrane keyboards, just a little bit of cleaning will short things out - best a damp cloth - if that. Curious to see your solution Sorin.

I'm not finding it that hard to replace this type of keyboard. I managed to do one in like half an hour or so. Just quickly cut the plastic nuts, put the new keyboard in then use a sharp soldering iron tip and some random piece of plastic to melt in the holes. Sometimes there's like 40 individual points or so it does put your patience to the test.

it is probably cheaper for the customer to get a used top cover with the keyboard from places like ebay. but would be interesting to see the actual process of installing the new keyboard. Top dell models have keyboards which can be replaced easily without breaking anything. I guess this model is not one of them.

Dell does not sell those keyboards separately. They are bonded to the palmrest, and Dell intends to have you replace the keyboard and palmrest at the same time.

Yeeeeeey, replacing keyboard, sounds a lot of fun! Pain in the butt those plastic things, when they are a lot of then. You gonna glue too? Better wait a night before closing the laptop or you'll have some stains in the screen 😅

I managed to change keyboards of laptops, its too much of time because you need to remove all of the parts just to remove the old keyboard and replace with the new one😂😅 you need to resolder them all of the plastic to keep them fit in the front.
