Young old, any race, don’t matter, so many shlubs are becoming porch pirates from lower income areas. This reminds me of the whole “I got in a fake Uber” debacles from a couple of years ago. The MyQ systems alerts you if the garage is open for an extended period of time. The Key app does the same. Nothing is impossible but for a garage door to be open for three days, there’s some user error or alert avoidance going on there. Nothing to see here really.
@stephengnb
@stephengnb 2 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm thinking. Also, Key is also not an additional subscription separate from Prime. I have an old garage door and opener, and when it malfunctioned one day after a delivery, the delivery driver called me and wouldn't leave without making sure the door was closed. I could see it on my camera.

Plus just set up in MyQ to automatically shut your door after 5 mins or something. Easy solution if you ask me. And for those worrying about thief’s joining up with the Amazon drive, or the driver themselves stealing stuff, just set up a camera in your garage. Also an easy solution! Smdh
@zsi
@zsi Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Seems this guy blindly trusted MyQ and Amazon to hold their end of the bargain without doing his part. Why didn't he check notifications? Why did he not check (or have) a security camera? Why did he not check Amazon to see why his package didn't arrive when he expected it to be delivered (since he obviously shipped it to the wrong house)? So many things here that it isn't fair to place the blame solely on MyQ or Amazon.

If you have a smart garage door opener that has the ability of having amazon key, it has the ability to notify you when the garage is opened and closed too, it even has the option in it that it will notify you that you door is open and not closed after set amount of time and you can go into the app and tell it to close the door. Some even have cameras on them so you can view the video feed to actually verify if that door is open or closed. Solution: if you regularly receive packages, build a secure box that can sit on your drive or porch. Secure it to the ground/wall, and have a decent padlock that you leave open, leave a note on the box or provide the info with the delivery company for the driver to place your item in the box and to then lock the padlock. *its not perfect but it’s better than items left loose and unattended on your deck, and better than granting access to your home/garage to random unknown delivery drivers. *otherwise, get to know your neighbours. It’s very likely that one of them is a stay home person? See if arrangements can be made to deliver your packages to their home.

So for the garage to be left open for 3 days and the owner not know. It's the owners fault thats trying to become famous. For those thats saying its a bad idea.....Just stop ordering stuff from amazon to have it delivered when you are not at home. I would prefer for them to leave it in my garage than to have it open on my porch. I use this option and its good to me when im not home. When i worked for them, i've seen all different type of UPS and Fedex packages on the porch that anyone can take. Even amazon drivers!!!!! So everyone can understand, this doesn't mean drivers have access 247. Only for that day of delivery when we pull up to your house it will connect with the garage and allow access. Then you HAVE to close up before leaving. After that we can not open again. It's a 1 time access.

Wait, you put in the wrong address and got mad when they deliver to the home you listed? And since you have Wi-Fi garage opener, couldn’t you see the garage open? I mean 3 days left open is weird

I’m confused. If the garage door is not closed, the home owner can close a smart garage with their phone….. despite that I would only chose this option for emergencies. It would be better if garage door did not open all of the way- like mail shoot so a person can’t just walk into the garage

If you signed up for key delivery that means you have a smart opener and it’s surprising that for 3 days you didn’t notice your garage was open. You could simply make a click on your phone and close it remotely 🙄

Extensive background check for drivers… yes. Driver has to wait to to close garage door for next delivery… no It can be bypassed. By calling Amazon support and manually skipping over that delivery after you drop the package in garage.

Move your wifi modem closer to the garage and you won't have that problem anymore. I've had it for 6 - 7 months. It works perfect every time. As far as the Amazon driver having access to my garage... that code only works one time on the day of delivery. The driver can't come back later and use it again to get inside your garage whenever he wants.

I sorry, I just cant muster up the give a dams for some rich person. I also find it odd that not one time the someone tried to break into the house. The entire garage door was open. I mean maybe because there's no entrance door to the house from the garage, but come on now. And no packages were stolen from the open garage. Suspect AF. Plus I don't understand being that dang trusting.

Screw your “background checks.” What happens when one of your drivers comes does with a bad case of sticky fingers on day? Maybe stealing little things that they think the homeowner won’t notice? I’m sorry but no one is allowed to have my garage code. Also, a lot of you need to invest in a “MyQ” so you can close or open your garage door from your phone.
@TaDarling1

We do not have your garage code. You have to have the whole system setup with camera. And once you order a a package and select garage delivery, on day of delivery we can open your door and have to close it before we can leave. We dont just have the code. It's a 1 time access for that delivery. And trust we don't like delivering to garages either.

The technology has been used for 300 years now by the post office to solve this problem. It's called a mail box. All people need to do is have a package drop box. Ideally close to the road or mailbox for better over all service since it reduces the time, injury risk, and labor to walk to the door. Keeping people at bay from your pets and personal belongings and trucks going down driveways. etc... It's the home owner's responsibility to have a safe place for their own stuff that they order. You want it safe from the weather, out of view from theives. Just get a drop box. I honestly don't know why Amazon or USPS hasn't had the brains to implent these things yet. The township will usually give each paying customer a free recycling can. They're not that expensive and can be covered by part of one's prime subscription. Just get a plastic box that you can screw or bolt down with a drop area like a collection box has. Most packages aren't any bigger than the size of a plastic recycling can. I mean.... You trust your mail to be put in a mail box that doesn't have a lock. So I don't see why people want someone on their property to be at their door step much less in their own garage. It's honestly just laziness and irresponsibility imo. You're getting stuff delivered right to your house. The least a person can do is walk to the road to get it.

I would never give delivery driver access to garage that’s why you can do a mail hold or send item to location if it’s being delivered by UPS or call FexEx and ask that it be delivered on a different date. Or know what time different couriers arrive in your neighborhood and be home. I would not live in any community where porch pirates exist.

Amazon's customer service has gone down the crapper. I kept on getting packages stolen so I told them to stop leaving packages and walk through the gate and hide them in the back. Everytime the drivers listen to the note the package doesn't get stolen, but when the driver just leave the package at front door for everybody to see the package gets stolen.. however that stolen package is my problem?? even though there clearly is a note on the account that has been working but the delivery driver is too lazy to do the extra walking

There is something really fuzzy about this story and it doesn’t really ring true. The homeowner should have received an alert notification on his cellphone letting him know that the garage door was left open (or closed). He could have closed the door through the MyQ/Amazon Key App on his phone from anywhere in the world, let alone Florida (600 miles where he said he was). I guess the news people didn’t bother to ask him about why he didn’t close the door remotely during the interview. I guess they figured they wouldn’t have had a sensational story if they did. This makes me wonder if this whole story was staged for some reason. It just doesn’t make sense technically.

I am pretty late to the game. An option would be to have your garage door timed, if you have this feature. If it remains open after "x" amount of time, then it would close by itself. Also, if you get the garage door opener that has a built-in camera you can see what is going on. Also, add extra security to the door that leads to your house. Unfortunately, I do not have Amazon Key in my city as of yet. I found this KZfaq on my search feed when I searched for alternate ways for packages to be delivered.
@jaysee27
@jaysee27 Жыл бұрын
The technical features you talked about are already there. Once you get the system in your area you will see that this guy’s story doesn’t make sense. He could have closed the door remotely from anywhere in the world through the phone app. And worse case, you can set a timer to close it each day automatically.

I have never had a problem with amazon leaving my packages in my garage. They are literally in and out in 2 seconds! I’m home half the time they deliver to my garage and they literally drop it off and close the garage door back signing 30 seconds. I feel safe they have never stayed in my garage longer. And I can see when the garage door opens and closed with the app.. literally the notification comes to the phone the min it’s open and closed. So he could have seen on his phone that it was open.. I don’t believe his full story.
