Reminds me of a buddy of mine. He bought a car for his wife. He thought she was getting the oil changed. She thought he was getting the oil changed. The car didn't have an oil change for about 10 years. It finally died with a seized engine at about 150,000 miles.

Yesterday I sanded down the little bumps on my new tires, seemed like a manufacturer issue, and they feel super smooth on the road now. 👍👍👍

I remember a raffle at a car show, where they took a 20 year old Toyota or Honda with almost 200k miles on it and tried to kill it. They put a block on the gas pedal and let it roar for over 25 minutes. When that failed to kill it, they pulled the drain plug and drained all the oil. Then they restarted the contest. That car ran another 17 minutes before it started to sound tortured. Finally after almost an half hour at full throttle, with no oil, it came to a halt. A perfect example of a well designed engine.

Thank you to my step dad who taught me how to take care of the basic needs of my car. 🙏

It still turns on to this day, long after he passed. Rotted out floor, no brakes, no reverse, just a plow that works and the most arthritic sounding engine I've ever heard

When my husband got his car from his grandmother, we noticed that it was acting odd. He had already had it for months when he decided to go have the oil changed. When they went to check the oil at the shop, all that was on the stick was this black sand. When they drained it, it had been running on oil that basically turned into gravel.

I love Mechanics because the good ones are so honest and they are usually not judgemental (At least not to our face). I grew up with no knowledge of cars. When I took my first one in after years with no inspection, he just walked me through it kindly. I literally knew NOTHING. Nobody ever told me (and I didn't ask) about yearly inspections, nothing. And I never got pulled over, so I was just lucky to get it to a shop before I got in real trouble.

Honestly sometimes if it runs, you just tell yourself you're glad it does.

I worked in mechanic shop for 44 years we've all seen people try to never change their oil it never works out

My husband once went literal years without changing or topping off his car’s oil. I freaked out when he told me this. His car had been in engine protection mode, I said “no shit it’s protecting itself from you” lol. Anyways, he took it to the Valvoline and they did the dipstick test. According to him, they pulled it out and doubled over from laughter.

Coolant out of the oil pan is crazy

Worked for an engine machine shop. Had an engine returned to us for warranty because it was having issues. Customer's mechanic had checked oil and nothing was on the dipstick so he added oil, but it hadn't helped. It was an industrial engine that ran 24/7 and they hadn't done an oil change. The oil had turned into rubber. I put my finger into it and it bounced back. We didn't give them warranty.

I'm a FIRM BELIEVER that anyone buying a car, new or used... To be required to take a class on basic automotive. So when they register the car, renew their drivers license, or acquire auto insurance.. they'll have a Current Certificate saying that they have knowledge of the Do's and Don't of ownership.

I have had customers come in the dealership for their first oil change 20,000 miles and complain about " ticking noise on start up. Pull oil plug 3 qts. Low, they want a new engine UNDER WARRANTY of course. NO WAY ! Besides their first oil change was free. !!😮
