Video descriptions:
0:00 Intro
0:04 Very lucky they decided to have this checked out before it blew
0:13 Don't forget to regularly check your spark plug oil. Jokes aside its likely a O-ring leaking that seals off the spark plug from the head
0:24 Wonder if the owner knew it was going to be repossessed in the near future so they stopped doing maintenance
0:50 Lifted 04 Chevy Silverado 2500 came in with bad ball joints all around, guy hadn't ever gotten his tires rotated and somehow never checked his tread inspected
1:00 I wonder if the sticker came before or after they destroyed the front end
1:10 Customer came in saying every time he opened the door fuel would spray on the ground, had to be towed into the shop
Thanks to Matt for this clip check their Instagram here! / ae101_gtz
1:22 Customers oil dipstick somehow rusted out and snapped off
1:28 Apparently PTU (transfer case) fail in these quite often so it's much cheaper and reliable to just pull the driveshaft
1:56 Customer states: No forward gears, only reverse - This was a 2007 Sierra, yeah that output shafts not supposed to come out like that
2:05 Not quite sure how they managed to do this might've been the classic 4WD while on the highway
2:31 Likely from the owner grabbing the steering wheel to leverage themselves to get into the truck
2:37 Wheel of Fortune Anyone?
2:43 Customer States "my bike doesn't run right" I think we found the issue
3:05 Sat in a field for 3 years but still started
3:13 GPS wasn't too happy - vehicle needed a bunch of fuses and after a reset it was fixed
3:32 Someone put some thick oil into the brake fluid reservoir
4:07 Customers complain that the air conditioner is not cold just because recirculation switch on, mileage just over 7000km
4:19 This is why mechanics hate doing heater core replacements
4:32 Ford Edge got towed in for a broken belt and the mechanic found this while inspecting
4:44 Amazon Van came in for a flat front tire... this is one of the rears yikes
4:58 Some crazy miles it has traveled would be interesting to compression test the cylinders
5:36 (Chrysler 300 of the '06 flavor) Customer stated they had a brake noise. Noise was actually the control arm bolt bashing around in its subframe hole. Had almost 3k worth of repair needed
5:45 Customer driving from Florida to Colorado the other side was equally this bad
5:50 Sparkplug destroyed after only 6 months of use likely a manufacturer fault
6:06 Outro

Back in the '80s in the UK when I was in the Boy Scouts I was able to do my Mechanics Badge. We had to know how to change a tyre, check oil, gap a distributor and valves as well as a few other tasks such as change brake pads and oil filter. The poor vehicle we were "working on" was a manual gearbox Mini 850. As far as I remember, it still worked when we were done.

@@DanielCoffey67 I'm 25 this year, i know how to change oil, do brakes, replace parts like radiator (not even mentioning thing like coil / sparkplugs). And I wasn't at "mechanic school". I only have technician in IT. Best thing is, i know mechanics that won't do timing belt/chain cuz they DON'T KNOW how to time properly an engine. Also, as You know. Teenager (18+ in my country) with fresh license + beating a car while it's still cold = engine damage. I was able to do a SWAP almost by myself (I only needed help with getting old block from car and putting new one in). I think there is nothing terryfing in doing things like oil change or discs & pads replacement. Unless You're person with inteligence on par with literally algeas.

I despise seeing some of these machines being treated like this , some of the issues I have seen in there videos is manufacture defect and I know it. It adds fuel to my contention that there is no need what so ever for a mechanic to cheat anyone. With people driving cars like this , there is more work out there than all of us combined can handle and more being generated each and every day. Cars and trucks have become more complex and drivers , makers , and laws have become stupider , not a winning combination.

My 80's Hyundai's dash is split into two. After owning and modding about 15 of them over the last quarter century, a few months ago I took my first dash out of the car. I was terrified of it, truth is it was a ~45 min job. I have to do it again in the spring, as I am swapping interiors out. I think I can have the entire interior swapped over in a whole day, providing enough sunlight and beer.

@@jamesplotkin4674 Yup, they go at about the same time. Because the oil seals on the side of the block start leaking at the same time as the tube seals, and they coat the belt in oil eventually breaking it down until it snaps. Mine did it when I have it. Some cars run the fuel pump when a door is opened to prime the system. Mainly European cars. If the fuel line is disconnected and you open the door, it’s going to spray fuel out. i recon probably chewed up or damage wire harness that reverse? fuel pump, its all bit weird because i looks like those leads should connect to something. I think they was and its to show the problem, when you starting the car it prime and pressurizes the fuel system before cranking. It the buzzing sound for 2-3 seconds, but when run continuously it could leak a bit. Usually the fuel system is not build to withstand excessive pressure. Diesel is bit different and some have even 2 pumps since its not suck in but sprayed under pressure. To be nitty gritty there are naturally aspirated diesel but but have so low power output, all diesel from 1930 onwards have injectors and force induction addition (turbo)

Heater cores?? Generally they put the heater assembly in fresh air and build the car around it. Worse you cannot get the core out of the box without destroying the box. Brake Fluid,, that apperars to be 50 weight brake fluid!! So it has those variable gap spark plugs.

So, the “mechanic’s” solution to the AC not cooling was to turn on the air recirculation? Either they pressed the wrong button in the video, or they’re as incompetent as the customer.

Is the one with the brake fluid at 3:36 the result of mixing DOT 4 and 5 fluids?
@AlexandarHullRichter
@AlexandarHullRichter Жыл бұрын
Probably motor oil. DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 are all cross compatible in cars that use DOT 3. DOT 4 vehicles (usually motorcycles) require DOT 4, or DOT 5.1. Vehicles that require DOT 5.1 (pretty much just motorcycles, race cars and bicycles with Avid/SRAM brakes) require DOT 5.1. I haven't even seen DOT 5 fluid (not compatible with DOT 5.1 or others) in an auto parts store, so I doubt someone would grab it by accident, especially since only race cars have ever used it, and it's probably super expensive like 5.1 is.

@@AlexandarHullRichter No magic here, it's from the 80s. Take off the lower crash pad (~8 screws, couple of wiring connections), take out the HVAC linkages (an annoying procedure, ~30 min, worth taking your time over), 4 bolts holding the heater core assembly to the firewall. Underhood - drain coolant to head level (about 2 litres out), disconnect 2 hoses from head (50% of the time, the hose clamp will break). Inside cabin, pull hoses through. You could do this in the firewall, but it's a guaranteed mess of coolant. If you have removed the carpet (another 20 min job) do this instead. Remove assembly (may have to pop off a couple ducts, IIRC). Unclip 4-5 pinch clips, unscrew one recirc linkage and set aside. Pull assembly apart, remove heater core. Installation is reverse of mounting. On a sunny, warm day with all the tools prepped and nothing breaking, I've done it in about 2 hours.

@@the_kombinator my 81 Toyota required full dashboard removal for access to the heater. All Toyotas were built like that from 68 on. Removing the carpet sure takes 20 minutes, but only after you've spent 2 hours removing the rest of the interior (including the dashboard) first.
@the_kombinator
@the_kombinator Жыл бұрын
@@AlexandarHullRichter Really? (Edit - I meant to say peel back the carpet enough that if coolant leaks it won't get it - that's 20 min) I can have my carpet out in about an hour. Four seats come out (exactly 10 bolts) then the seatbelt tensioners (two 17 MM bolts), centre console (like 5 min), and the most annoying part is the sill cladding - no screws, but if you manage to remove it all without breaking a single clip, go get a lottery ticket. Then it's just pull the carpet out of the car and reveal just how rotten your floorboard is and commence cutting it, only to breathe on the fuel and brake lines and have them disintegrate before you. Then you need to also weld in new floor patches. But yeah the carpet can be out in under an hour if you've done it more than once. What kind of 81 Toyota? If you say Cressida, I won't be surprised.

I have a beautiful 68 Mustang I bought in 1977my senior year, lifelong Southern California car, back in the mid 90s, I reluctantly loaned it to my sister in law to use, her car had transmission failure, my brother had been killed in a car accident about 2 years earlier..she was well aware of how much the car meant to me. About a week later she calls and tells me it has no brakes, and by using the E BRAKE, barely avoiding an accident. Yup, my 15 year old nephew put transmission fluid in the master cylinder. New master, 4 new wheel cylinders, new front brake lines, and flushing the crap out of it, expensive repair, but I had no issues when I got it back. Of course, I had to pay for it. Ever since, no one borrows that car !

The car that dumps fuel when passenger door open... is that not the driver's door in a RHD country? Mechanic sounds English or New Zealander. If so, the pump is meant to activate when doing this, it just has a nasty leak.
