I get that but its up to you to defend yourself. I used to cuss out customers and threaten them in front of my boss if they acted up and he always had my back. Customer service and respect is for those who give it. Period.

@@hijabi_2324 I would fight my boss after work if he ever did that. Thankfully we always had an understanding of right and wrong. The idea that the customer is always right is actually a misconstrued quote apparently. I think the full saying is actually "the customer is always right in matters of taste." So yeah, why exactly are we subjugating ourselves to archaic ideas.

Meh most people are still good. I worked in retail. I think humans just have a cognitive bias to mostly only remember the bad shit because its more memorable and impactful in our day to day. I used to always say even if you had 15 amazing customers in a row. It only takes 1 bad customer to potentially ruin your entire energy and shift. 🙂

I hope you never have to deal with abuse. I've never been in a romantic relationship with an abuser, but when I was in college one of the advisors for a club I was in became verbally and emotionally abusive towards me. Things got so bad that my roommate told me that I was screaming in my sleep and I ended up having to withdraw from 2 classes one semester because I was failing since these were hard classes and my grades suffered from my emotional state. I couldn't just leave because I was treasurer and I truly believed in the purpose of the club, even though the advisor was bad. I didn't have many friends outside of that club at the time. I feared him lashing out at me or my friends if I spoke up about what was going on. He ended up leaving after that year (not because of what happened) and I remember many people being sad when he left. I wasn't. Somebody might stay in an abusive relationship because they are afraid of the abuser harming their friends or family if they leave, or because their abuser may provide for them financially depending on their relationship, or perhaps they've convinced family/friends that everything is great even though it isn't and they want to avoid questions. Abuse wears you down physically, mentally, and emotionally and the person being abused may feel like they have nowhere to go. They may fear all relationships being like their abusive one or that their next relationship could be worse. These are just a few possible reasons but there are many more.

Exactly. I worked as a cake decorator in a grocery store and customers would order elaborate cakes then complain. The cake would be exactly what they ordered! When they asked for a manager they knew they would get it for free 😡

Same. Sometimes it feels like the manager is setting you up to fail. Super frustrating.
