Customising your Nikon Z fc

As an owner of a Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6, I wanted to customise my Nikon Zfc to work similarly to my other cameras so I could switch between them without thinking.
My other Nikon Z's have been customized with Back Button Focus, Exposure Compensation on the programmable lens ring, ability to change between auto and manual exposure easily, and different video settings to photo settings to ensure compatibility with Australian hertz rates and frame rates.
As a Z owner, I expected set up to be quite straight forward, however, due to the unique styling of the Z fc, particularly with the manual dials, I needed to delve deeper to make the customisations I wanted.
I hope this video helps others that are wanting to customize their Nikon Nfc

Great video especially on the subject of setting up back button focus. I have looking for days on the net to find the right way but that you have to scroll up in the menu in stead of scrolling down was mentioned nowhere. A lot of people have been struggling with this. Well done.

Thanks for this video ! I got mine 3 weeks ago with the 28 and that's for sure a beauty. It's about to replace my D700/35mm (I'm mostly doing family pictures and landscapes) Take care.

Tank you so much. Very intelligent setting. I changed from Fuji X to the "good old" Nikon and was a little bit confused by all that menu options. So this was a good start. I also came to the point that using manual ist the best for me. But i had exactly that problem, to quick access the iso automatic. Also the tip to set the ring to the exposure comensation - great. I would never have found that. Thank you again, your Videos are really professional made - perfekt work!

If you go to F2 you can set up the back button to focus and then re enable the shutter release to focus also. That way you have two methods. I have both my Z cameras set up like this. Thanks for your video

The part about BBF was most helpful. On my other Nikon Z7 and Z6, there were far fewer steps to go through. Basically, it was all done on menu item 1. I wonder why Nikon had to make this so different on the Z fc?

I'm looking forward to a little street photography with this beautiful camera. What is your opinion about using a quality clear filter on the kit lens (24-50mm.?) Thanks again.

I set up my record button as a toggle to switch between back button focus to shutter button focus - for those moments where it's awkward to use the back button focus and want to use the traditional way or I hand my camera to a person that doesn't know about my back button for focusing 🙏

Hello! Thank you for this video. The only issue I'm having with the back button focus is that when I switch to video mode, I lose the auto-focus altogether, it doesn't even find my eyes anymore. Any guidance on how to keep the back button focus for photos AND keep the auto focus for videos? Thanks!!

It seems like when I switch from "shutter/AF-ON" to "AF-ON only", then, when capturing videos, the focus control moves to the lens ring, and I can't focus automatically anymore. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

I set my mode to M, then the exposure dial to C, then Auto ISO and the focus ring to exposure. The problem is that I can take only one photo in M mode before the exposure on the lens ring stops effecting the photo, while in A or S mode I see the effect in every photo I take. Any thoughts???

I tested mine and the setting sticks. I'm not sure why it's not on yours. Did you adjust any other settings connected with exposure compensation in the menu?

Caution! I recently downloaded firmware for the Zfc from Nikon. When I hit the upload, the camera shut itself down and would not restart. Nikon support told me it would have to be sent to a service center. I mailed it, at my expense. After a week, I got an estimate for repair. Almost $ 300.00. This camera was just over one year old, purchased directly from Nikon and had less than 1,000 actuations. The camera worked perfectly until I tried to upload the firmware. Note - I own over two dozen Nikon cameras including four Z series and I am very familiar with the update procedure. Has anyone else had this problem?
