He is a Buisness man he is obviously doing this work for someone who has $1,500 to put into a $300 utility trailer he’s gonna definitely overkill it and stick it to the customer with no lube so he can get 400-600% profit all this crap he’s doing is pointless for a $300 trailer unless you just have endless money or just that gullible to have someone talk you into spending this ungodly amount of money on a rusty lawnmower trailer I’m sure he made $2,500-$3,000 by doing this unnecessary work for an old trailer but I’m with you I spent 35 dollars on my trailer restoration and it took half a Saturday looks just as good if not better. Save your money people learn how to do DIY projects yourself it’ll save you thousands!

I know it’s a year later but I’m doing the exact same with a 5x6 trailer. With a black spray on bed liner for the inside though. Was wondering if anyone had the same idea and there you are.! Haha

I dipped my trailer in citric acid instead of blasting. Sure not everyone has an old pool laying around or a crane but the next project won’t fit in the pool 😂 I was going to do it half then prime then the next then expoy . Been doing this since 1985 never blasted anything. Doesn’t it leave a marked finish or does it depend on your media?

@@TheLexiconDevils Sandblasting or glass bead blasting leaves a slightly roughened finish that is a good anchor pattern for coating. ....an old pool full of citric acid??? Interesting.

You can "Freeze" rust if you the coating you are applying is actually a polymer that is air tight. Without oxygen there is no oxidation which is what rust is. That is what he applied. It is a plastic not a paint.

@@heightsgolan8742 oh if he leaves it in doors for the next 10 billion year's it will not but do to the fact that there is a thing called humidity and oxygen in thte air also that the parts all ready had rust, ive done this all ready and ques what its back dont get me wrong it will hold for a good time but you cant say it will never rust also in the joint its close to impossible to penetrate but unbelievably rust gets in there

@@anthonysciorilli1054 mate i bought a 4 liter can of watttyl kill rust epoxy paint. I purchased from my local automotive retail outlet. Gave the old trailer a touch up here & there on all the loose paint/rusty bits with my electric angle grinder. Washed the tailer down with some dish washing detergent mixed with water from a bucket. Use a soft bristle hand brush or broom, then rinse off with water from garden hose. Trailer dry, 2 coats of paint using paint brush. Want a better looking finish, use a spray gun & compressed air. Should be instructions on can about spaying procedures. Usually have to thin the paint out to spray paint with thinners for oil base or water for water based paints. Doesn't matter where you purchase, local hardware or automotive paint outlet. Go with who ever is cheapest. Good luck, cheers from 🇦🇺👍🏻👌🏻.

Bro that's exactly what I was thinking haha you literally only need 1 of these products before painting over it or you can just use a poly paint. Waste of money

I work at custom trailer shop as the painter. A trailer that small 15 mins with a green 3m stripper disc and switch to a wirewheel for the diamond plate and rust is gone. Could even use a drill if you don't have grinders on hand. Drill, sandpaper with hand, die grinder or rotary tool for any hard to reach places inside the channel or suspension parts. Gallon of primer and paint $60 and will paint it twice. I didn't see him paint underneath. We paint the complete frame and suspension in primer and then with a high solids acrylic enamel paint in whatever color

Your not understanding the purpose of surface coatings 1. The first one was for a high level of corrosion resistance. As in a VERY high level. ie you are driving next to the ocean all day resistance. Then he primed that surface for the next layer 2. The next layer is abrasion resistance. That is what raptor coating is for. Anti-scratch material This was not just a minimal prep 3 in 1 rustoleum in a can job. What James Smith said about painting custom trailers, his preparation while effective is not as protective as this sequence. James layering is done for aesthetics and economy, not for long term survival from multiple harsh attacks. The only real criticism I have is that he didn't do the under side or do the tail gate separately. That is a serious omission of doing a complete job. In the end the guy was not doing a tutorial for how to do your trailer, he was just videoing what he did with his trailer. Basically a colour coding of what he had to his car with some coatings that he wanted to try because they above just primer and paint.

Should be like every other spray.

He's a professional painter. Not much cost involved if he got the trailer for $200

@@1993Revhead I understand that but it's a video intended to demonstrate how to fix a rusty trailer. Most people can't get these products for free and by the time you factor in how cheap a new trailer is, you wouldn't bother going to this extent to repair an old one.

I understand the buying of new, but the challenge of restoring old equipment has its alour and pride. And to demonstrate your side of the argument, in 2017 we drove up to northern Vermont to trailer dealer that handled N & N trailers from Quebec. Completely galvanized. Bought a 12 x 6 dump trailer front hydraulic piston, 10,000 pound gvw. An absolutely fantastic trailer so far. So you are right at times it is prudent to purchase new when time and money permit.

Andy Gray the raptor is UV stable so I will last forever. Prices are in the links in Australian $$. This coating is much better then the original finish so you can't compare to a new trailer.
