I think that's why celebrities are better participants at this. They have pretty thick skin from the years of harsh criticism and rejection in the media and from people in their industry. Average, everyday folks aren't cut out for being roasted, especially by close friends and family. Even if they manage to laugh it off, they will always think about it when they are around those people, and hold it against them (even if they keep it to themselves).

Nah, if you're not full of insecurities and somewhat confident getting roasted can be hilarious and fun as fuck. As long as people aren't genuinely trying to be mean at which point it stops getting fun and ends up a little uncomfortable.

I agree, it's not the right format for SNL. Butttttttttt, if there were a show with all sketches like this, I would definitely watch it. It's kind of like that Netflix series 'The Characters' which was hit or miss depending on the comedian, but a good format nonetheless.

Pete: Finally stays in character in a sketch Pete Fans: He was SO GREAT! lol I don't mind Pete, and he has gotten so much better lately, taking the show as seriously as he should, but for so long he wouldn't even pretend to care enough to not smile and to actually attempt to stay in character. He just always struck me as that popular kid that ironically volunteers to participate only to mock the entire concept. Like I said, he's gotten better, but god, that was so obnoxious when he would do that.
