Hey Moe, I was sitting here watching your video and being blown away by all the cool stuff you always have in your videos and then you mention my video on the glass cleaner and I was even more blown away. Thanks so much for the shout out I really appreciate it. I think I already got a couple of subscribers from your mention. I learned several things in your video but the coolest one was about the taillight and rubbing off the paint for the light to shine through. That was genius. By the way, if anyone ever needs a large amount of scrap or pretty decent used mirrors I have a tip. I live in a 55 and over retirement community of condos that has a trash day once a week. There are about 1000 apartments and I can't tell you how many times I have seen people throw out mirrors. If I wanted mirrors I would talk to some of the people who drive around and pick the trash to recycle every week and let them know I was in the market for some used mirrors. Nobody else wants them and they are going to be smashed. Thanks again Moe.

I will say the larger mirror has a hot glue on frame. It breaks right off and then a cardboard back is glued in a few spots around the edges. It also comes off easily but sometimes some small dalops of glue need to be peeled off the back of the mirror around the edges.

The underwater technique with tin snips leaves a very rough edge. Fine for something that has a gasket/edge but not generally for a mirror with exposed edges.

I've taken stained glass classes both for lead came style and the Tiffany Style and I can tell you pushing is the hardest thing. You do need to push hard but where you run into trouble is starting and finishing the cut. It takes some practice to push hard and not crunch down at the end sometimes even ruining the piece. He also did not mention glazier's pliers.

Pushing and listening for the correct sound is key. If you're on a perfectly flat surface you can push almost as hard as you want with no issues.

Practice on a scrap piece of glass. It’s not about how hard you press, but the consistency of the sound scoring makes. As long as you hear it all the way through, it’s good enough. Pressing too hard can actually cause the score to freeze, which in turn, causes the glass to break wrong. Oil when scoring is essential.

regular sandpaper on an orbital or better yet a belt sander works great. its what we used in the glass workshop at uni

True. Water isn't necessary though as it just keeps the dust/chips from moving. It leaves a very rough cut and can chip the reflective coating off the back in noticable chunks.

@@sixtyfiveford Ive never cut a mirror underwater ..just thin glass but I believe the water does dampen vibrations or something like that to cut what would not work dry.

The passenger mirrors on most modern cars with tiny mirrors are convex/slightly curved to give a slightly wider field of view. The drivers is flat. I've done passenger mirrors and the difference is so small you'd only notice it in a side by side comparison.

Go to your local goodwill. They usually have tons of picture frames of that size for next to no money. Buy it and just use the glass.

@@corey6393 To be fair the only reason I know that is because whenever I need a mirror (to use a flat surface for sanding or something) I head to goodwill where they have TONS of them.

I've picked up several broken larger mirrors (4ft-6ft) for free where just a corner was broken and cut them down. Though when you get this large 1/4" thick is more common.

@@PJBonoVox I use a small slab of granite counter top for flattening things on sandpaper. Wet sanding intake manifolds for example.
