Good afternoon, Jo. I just subscribed to your channel. I love your stamp carving videos. I already have pretty much the materials you recommend. I would love a copy of your cute Pineapple design to practice on.

I am about to try craving my first letterboxing stamp and have gathered quite a lot of useful information from your channel. The image is a steam locomotive with a smoke plume. I thought it might be easier to create two separate stamps and mount them both on one block. Have you ever combined two stamps on one block? I plan on using a piece of clear plexiglass and goop to mount the stamps.
@CutsAndScrapes
@CutsAndScrapes 4 жыл бұрын
I have done that! Be careful, it may make inking it harder, but so long as there's an easy separation, it's not a problem. I love letterboxing! Happy trails!

I think I saw something like these carving blocks in a Diazo Japanese Stores. Don't forget, I'm from the United States.

Very jealous! We don't have Daiso stores near where I am.

Thanks! The process is essentially the same as linocut. Maybe this is why there are no stamp carving sections in stores, because they have one printmaking section for all types. Also, why not sharpen the gouge if it gets dull instead of throwing it away?

Thank so much for this wonderful demo. You have a clear voice, and explain everything in detail, but without repeating yourself the demonstration is very good. If you could get in a bit closer, it will help to see the depth of the material. the one thing I personally find annoying is the distracting music. Your not the only one and it also makes it more difficult to hear. Keep up the good work! PAM

Hi Pam! Thank you for your kind comments - I've heard other people say the music is distracting, so I'm going to start keeping it just for the intros & outros, hopefully that will help! I'm also looking into a way to get some super close ups for future videos to you can see in very fine detail what is happening with the knives and gouges - be sure to subscribe so that you can see those! ♡

I have only carved a few stamps, but I started because I go letterboxing. It is a great pastime. Go to letterboxing.org or atlasquest.com for clues. Thanks for the videos; they are great!

Have you tried graphite paper to transfer to the block? Seems like it should work really well.
@CutsAndScrapes

I have! It can work, there are better transfer papers than others, and I'm hoping to do a transfer video to show a whole bunch of ways to do transfers :) stay tuned!

Great video! fascinating to watch. I'm totally self taught by trial and error, so nice to see another carvers process. Do you like this rubber better than speedball speedy carve? Is there any difference in the hardness/strength/quality of it, or is it just prettier?
@CutsAndScrapes
@CutsAndScrapes 7 жыл бұрын
I do like this stuff better than Speedy Carve - the new Speedy Carve I find a little too... floppy? for my tastes. This stuff is more firm, and it likes to be cut more than Speedy Carve (which tends to bend away from the cut you're making, leaving an ever so slight wobble and therefore difficulty in making truly straight lines/cuts). I still use Speedy Carve though - and there is nothing I like more than trying new carving mediums!
