I don't even like Drake in general but I had to get myself a Cutter after this great review. It's a really charming flying brick to just take it easy in for a while. And that quantum range is just wow.

7 months later and I will say the cutter is still my favorite ship in the game. Even over my carrack. It is just a well rounded ship for the majority of mission types. Also, great loot machine.

I started playing not too long ago and bought the Cutter with the game. It was great for showing me the potential of the game and what all I could do in it. I recently upgraded it to it's bigger cousin, the Cutlass Black.

Such a great little run around this. I love the drake style which is always dripping in atmosphere that sometimes seems absent in the more sterile styles of other manufacturers.

I'm a massive fan of the Cutter - I've been using it for drug runs, and generally as my daily driver. Great video tour of the ship! I think it's a really strong contender for first timers.

Excellent video! Got a chance to use the Cutter for a while. It's a great little ship and exactly what's been missing for the budget starter pack tier (in my opinion). Just found your channel, loving the videos so far. You may know this, but others may not. Accessing ship inventory lockers that say "external" is separate from the actual Vehicle ship inventory accessed with "i" anywhere in the ship. The main difference being, anyone can take things from the "external" locker. For example, in the Corsair, each bed has a drawer with separate "external" storage, which I load up with gear for people who come onto my ship to group for missions, so they don't lose their good stuff, but I can still load things into the Vehicle inventory that they can't access, and same for them.

For size 1 shields. The best currently is the Palisade. All shields offer the same....everything, across shields of similar size, except the Palisade, which has a greater ballistics resistance than all other shields in game. Just FYI.

I will say one thing, the mustang alpha was a frustrating starter ship and nearly tarnished my first impression of the game. I chose it because it looked cool and I figured it would be fast or have SOME dogfighting advantage, but it is painfully underpowered. I think for the game, something like this cutter is perfect because being able to walk around your ship absolutely seals the deal. The mustang and the aurora are frustratingly small. I understand the need for grinding and a sense of progression, but I think this game serves itself better by dazzling you straight off the bat and having a walkable interior with that gorgeous detail and cargo capability is just unbeatable.

Traded my Titan in for a Cutter with the white paint. The white paint to me really makes it seem functional yet clean, also removes the yellow tint on the windows.

I love my little Spacedumpster. Started out at this years IAE because the LTI Gamepack deal was just to good to pass. Done some Deliveries, Low Risk Bounties, Bunkers and just general looting with it and it handles everything like a champ. I keep a PTV in the Cargobay to be able to drive to the hostile Bunkers and I still got enough space for Delivery Boxes or to loot the armor of "a willing participant". Hopefully CIG releases the Ranger Series at some point in the near future because those would litterally be the perfect companion craft for the Cutter. Personally from what limited experience I gathered during the previous freeflights I participated in, the Cutter IS the best and most refined Startership currently avilable closely followed only by the Nomad. Its got litterally every facility you could ask for on a spaceship. Its got features many bigger ships dont have. Load up enough Food and Water and you could live inside that thing for a month or even more. Try doing that with a Titan. The first time you need to take a leak you'd be boned. Its the little things that matter. Like the lockable Cockpit Door. Picked up two straned folks in the middle of nowhere. If they would have been hostile, flying something like a Titan or even the 300 Series would have been a problem because they would have direct access to my person. With the Cutter, I just seperate myself with the press of a button and am completly safe.

I started with the Avenger Titan back when it was the go to choice, but if I had to restart I'd probably go for this. The storage of a small vehicle is awesome. It can do a bit of everything, and I've always loved the looks of Drake ships.

For a starter ship at the beginning in september when i joined the Stanton Galaxy i was having the Mustang Alpha but after so many month away from home and having already 3 wipes and the 4 one is on the way i decided to upgrade my ship from Mustang to Cuter because i'm a cargo hauler not a fighter and i love to explore the game so yeah i just wait to get back home after 6 months away and start fresh on the game by the way i love all your videos about ships keep up the good work Peace in the verse and cya

Take off the guns and shields and the EM signature on the cutter is in the 400s. It will also hold a nox in its cargo bay, which could make it pretty useful for com array missions and obviously bunker runs. I haven't tried to see if the klesher missile turrets will get a lock on it, but if they use EM missiles then it would be great for felon pickups as well.

Im a new player. This is my starter ship. After learning the basics in it, i grinded to a constellation Phoenix. I recently bought a Gladius, but I still love taking the cutter out on explorations and doing low level missions. It reminds me of my old 1995 ford e150 van that i converted into a camper van. Its easy on fuel, provides u with a bed and has a little room for storage. Its a great all around ship for a solo player. I still be using mine ALOT. Thanks for the great review.

Great video as always! I really like the Cutter; CIG knocked it out of the park in terms of detail and features. I'll hold onto it for the quick claim time, but I read somewhere that the 6K quantum fuel capacity was a mistake -- which is a shame, this thing can go for days before refueling.

Farrister - I'd recommend the Palisade shields instead, as they have a bonus 20-24% more ballistic protection over the FR-66!

@@Farrister as I enjoy Prospector mining, the Nomad has much more utility for me with it's very much larger cargo hold for shuttling refined ore. I enjoy the look and feel of the Cutter more, and the QT capacity is incredible but not useful in Stanton. The Nomad does have a theoretical weakness with exposed cargo, but I've yet to experience an issue with that.

I reorganized my fleet during the IAE. I now have a Cutter, Corsair, MOLE, and RSI Galaxy w/refining module (mpuv and greycat buggy). Going to use my cutter as somewhat a zero to hero. Basically, once we have our wipe, start off just using the cutter until I can afford to operate the other vessels. Act like they're inherited unexpectedly.

I currently own the Avenger Titan, but this ship looks a lot more livable and cozy to be in. Which is a huge deal when you spend the majority of your time inside of your ship. Genuinly considering downgrading to this bad boy just for the atmosphere and vibe

"At least there is not a see-through window in this one" :D To be fair, Drake ships usually don't even have a toilet door at all like the Caterpillar or simply no toilet like the Cutlass. It's ARGO with their 100% transparent glass door toilets in the RAFT and MOLE.

Picked it up at this halloween sale, it's the perfect starter! Really hated the mustang and aurora so i never wanted to buy in. But i could pick it up for the same price as the other starters, so i jumped the gun.

Excellent video. o7 My thoughts on it are a bit mixed, I am terribly tempted to grab the C8 meical Pices instead, but the Cutter has a lot of benefits. The Cutter can be claimed almost instantly, it fits a bike or a vehicle (though not the hoverquad, strangely), and is perfect for packages with its large cargo area. The QT fuel tank is currently quite impressive, though we'll see if it gets nerfed. Potentially, its cargo area will benefit from the "soon" to be available 3.18 and PES. My character also doesn't clip through when setting down a package as happens in the 100 series, so no damage or getting stuck in the walls. It also supports bed logging to pick up where I left off, has a weapon rack, and I stored a decorative item in its fire extinguisher spot so that was neat. The bathroom is neat, I appreciate it, but it's not likely to have a practical use for years so it's whatever. Also, it flies pretty much like a brick and it's slow even at full throttle, and the vtol behavior is strangely bouncy. Even at the weakest thrust, the Cutter bounces off of the ground a bit too high when lifting off. I guess the engines ARE huge for it, but it's weird. All that said, the C8R's medical bed would be immediately useful. Even for a solo player it means easily available hydration & food and patching up minor injuries. It also apparently spawns with a couple of simple supplies, so that's very cool, and it handles much better than the Cutter. To be honest, if it wasn't for the Foundation Festival pain for the 100i I'd be tempted to swap the 100i to the C8R, but I don't want to lose the paint when swapping the ship over. edit: fixed some typos

I've had the MR, the Mustang, the Pisces and the Titan and I like the Cutter more than all of them, and is the one that I'm keeping. I already have a soft spot for Drake, and there's just something more fun about the Cutter than the other starters that I've had.

I like this ship. I plan on joining Star Citizen on release of 3.18. I'll create an account for the future Free Fly event that goes along with the patch then maybe join with this ship or perhaps the Vulture if it becomes available with a package. If not I'll eventually get a Vulture then maybe the Caterpillar. Looking forward to playing.

Seems like the Cutter really fulfills a niche I've been needing to scratch before getting into the game. Up until now it seems like the options have been either start at the absolute bottom of the barrel with the Aurora MR, wallow about in a sea of tiny, railroaded interiorless ships, or dish out just a little more than I'm comfortable with spending with the do it all Avenger Titan, whose aesthetics I utterly abhor regardless of practicality. It's a claustrophobic, windowless toothpaste-tube that appears, frankly, out of place in a setting as sci-fi as Star Citizen. It looks like it should be an antique from 2050, not the third millennium. Hell, even Drake ships look more futuristic than the Titan, as the Cutter goes to show. So yeah, if I ever get that PC upgrade I'm gunning for, the Cutter looks like the way.

@@Farrister It just looks too NASA, too "airplane in space" for me. Sure, plenty of other ships you could say fall into that spaceplane category, but they at least blur the line with materials and colors. I guess its design language to me just doesn't evoke "spaceship" enough, which Drake does get right despite all their ships' barebones fuglyness.

Seeing the cutter and the corsair coming into the game with a polished design(as far as drake is concerned) the cutlass black is in desperate need of a gold standard. I love the cutter ! Its my starter on my zero to hero account. The cutter fills a good space being the only starter ship in the verse with a gold standard(C8R could be considered a starter but the cutter is cheaper and closer to the actual starter ships)

Got a Cutter as an LTI seed, but found it’s a bit slow in atmosphere and has the ‘zero weight’ bug, so mine was tossed 3km by the wind on Euterpe. I’m actually enjoying how zippy the C8R is for bunker running, and find the Medbed to be quite useful.

that bug used to always happen to me on moons in my alpha mustang,I started making sure to turn off my engines before leaving my ship and it hasnt happened since but that could be luck but i think the engines make the ship float when stationary making it easily blown

@@itwillendaholic2484 I’ve had C2s and MSRs blown by bad physics, but expected the Cutter to be adjusted from the start not to have this bug. Gonna record a video and make an IC post, as nobody seems to have reported this before. And yes, my engines were shut down, didn’t help

When the ship is available for aUEC, i suspect a LOT of people will pick one up for the same reason they pick up a pisces. It's a runabout. The cutter having a bed and shower, and enough room for a couple different types of ground vehicles make it an amazing runabout. Especially with that amazing QT fuel capacity. Whether you're using a VK-00 or an Atlas, you'll be flying around the system for cheap, and landing in tight areas. My personal runabout will probably be my C8R, but a cutter is a pretty attractive offer.

I just bought it as a foundation for a ship upgrade chain, the bundle had an okayish price (starter pack price was almost identical to ship only price) and you later will be able to create a personal NPC if you have more than one starter pack. One reason for that is, that it has a lifetime insurance and this will transfer to any ship you will upgrade to. At the other hand it is a nice ship, because this will be one of the first with really functional components and other functions of the ship.

As always a nice review. Your sound is a little different as usual. Did you change your mike, record in a different place or change your mix settings ? It's still good but your voice sounds less warm, with less presence. (this is not a critic, just a guess)

I think it would have been improved if they'd have turned the bathroom 90 degrees, shifted everything on the port side of the hab room back to the rear bulkhead, and put a door just behind the cockpit bulkhead. Just a door, not an airlock. Maybe something along the lines of the side door of an ursa where the lower half swings down as a step and the upper half swings up. This would allow them do double the cargo grid to 8 scu and still have access to the interior of the ship. (although you'd have to depressurize the hab room if you're in vacuum) That would put it more in line with the Avenger, but you'd trade the better firepower for the ability to haul a bit bigger vehicle.

I rented the Cutter twice to evaluate it. I don't see myself owning it, but it probably is a good choice for a starter. I find it very easy to land for some reason, and pretty easy to fly. But I don't feel safe flying in it, and I would pick a different ship if I had to choose only one starter. If VTOL becomes important, however, that does change things because it would be the only starter with VTOL (although I think the Aurora series should have a VTOL mode, seeing that it has landing skids as opposed to wheeled landing gear). Imagine if all non-VTOL ships needed a runway or a flat surface to land and take off from like an airplane. Which would mean you need space to take off. That would definitely change things.

Fun fact: the Razor Crest, which the Cutter seems to draw a bit of inspiration from, is estimated to be a bit less than 30m long, which is also roughly the length of this ship that we Citizens would consider tiny. Really shows the difference in ship scales between the two franchises. There's a lot I like about the Cutter and it's undoubtedly a useful ship, although I don't really enjoy the Drake style and philosophy. It's really a perfect mobile mini home if it weren't for the fact that it's a Drake ship and retains the rust bucket identity that I, when immersing myself, wouldn't trust with my life. Still, I'm definitely planning to try it out for some time.

I love my little cutter. Was happy to pick up it with the Corsair. Needed a little ship with a quick claim time incase my main ships get destroyed. When the wipe hits I will spending a majority of my early zero to hero play through in it. Also can you do the Drake Corsair next please???

I am brand new to Star Citizen. Cutter is my first ship. She is slow, but I enjoy it. I was brought to the Cutter because the Drake aesthetic is all I could ask for. It looking like a mini Serenity certainly doesn't hurt. Still trying to figure out the game, but its a pretty forgiving ship to fly since it is rather slow. I am also still trying to figure out how to make money, as I do plan to upgrade in the near future to the Cutlass Black.

Every ship I owned I've fallen out of love with (Hawk, Cutlass, Mustang, Reliant, Freelancer etc.) and traded in except the Avenger Titan. This does 80% of what the Titan does for 60% of the cost and looks cool. If my inner roleplayer's voice wasn't pushed so far back in my mind I might've bought it for RPing a trucker.

@@Farrister I gotta admit , CIG did a helluva job with the level of detail on the Corsair and the Cutter as well. The Corsair is a beast , I got interdicted a coupla days ago , obliterated the Mantis in a matter of seconds , the other clown warped out before I could get my guns on him . Chinese pirate wannabe's on the Asian server , couldn't understand a word they were saying but I can imagine .

The cutter indeed have less shield than a Avenger Titan but it does have more hull stock HP. 2500 for the Avenger vs 8000 for the Cutter (3k nose only).
