When I worked for our local heating and cooling man I was taught to mark your circle, then pound a punch Awl thru the sheet metal somewhere near the center, and wallow it around to create a start hole for the snips. You simply spiral your cut out to the circle you marked, and at the final pass, you only remove a narrow a strip, making it very easy for the material to get out of the way of the snips, resulting in a nice smooth professional cut. That ugly hole you cut would have got me yelled at, lol. No need to fight the material.
