Cutting Down the Banana Tree and Why, Austin Demonstrates 9/15/2019. We have an apple banana tree grove and harvested one of the bananas from one of the trees. We show you a very important thing to do after you harvest the banana's off of the tree and we explain why we do it. This is Austin's favorite part, so we will have him demonstrate! Enjoy!

Excellent announcement, Austin. We in Japan also cut basho tree, which belongs to the same family (Musaceae) as banana tree, in early spring to encourage its renewal. However basho trees do not bear edible fruits as banana trees do. Well it appears that your famiy has a great orchard! Another introduction, please! Have a good Sunday.

If he hangs it over the brick farther and cuts on the other side, the tree won't pinch the blade and it'll cut easier. Maybe next year.

If you cut a banana trunk down.(didn't grow bananas) will it regrow from the trunk ?

maikalangelo yes it can but usually it will have already spouted out two more shoots on the side of it. Unfortunately I have never seen a banana tree fruit motor than once so its best o cut it down so more can grow. I don’t know why that is. I started with one small tree and now i have a small grove of like 12 big ones and maybe 15 small ones getting bigger. Thanks for watching and thanks for the great question! Aloha =)

@@PhotoLukeHawaii youre welcome nice video by the way. It didn't fruit. I cutted it down because it has only bad hanging leaves. Now it doesn't grow back from the trunk as I hoped for.

Victoria Nilsen your banana tree flowered again? Wow if it did that's amazing! I was told to cut it after you harvest the bananas because it doesn't fruit again. Also that when I cut it it would sprout more trees which it usually sprouts two more trees. If you have a banana tree that keeps giving you more banana's that's awesome don't cut that one down. @@PhotoLukeHawaii I went out there now because I have a bunch... Apple bananas.. I did find a dead stalk behind it? I think it was a sucker because it was so small? so this be one of the babies..? You were right.. But I remember being so shocked and happy that it was flowing again.. This time I'm gonna chop it down like your son. ❤.But I think I'm going to reuse the trunk for future plants as Recyclable pots. How do I get the bananas to get ripe they're so hard...starchy Mohalo 🤙

Starting up a small farm here in Delta state, nigeria and started off with 4000 plantain and 1000 banana suckers. I really wish it was possible to not need to cut down the stems and im going to see if it is possible with abit of fertiliser to make a stem produce again a following year. However the stem shouldnt be thrown away. It can be used for mulching in your garden and it also has huge medicinal benefits. Leaves can be used as a tea or even for cuts and scrapes. @tropical_frank
