Cool! Never thought of this while playing the beta but say the monster was to walk off and you chase it do you see on the mini map where the tail is so you can come back and carve or does it do something stupid like diassapear if you don't carve it quick enough?

Jarred Clarke its best to carve it when it falls off and just track the monster again because after killing your target you have a timer to collect and you might not find the tail.

Do you have to use a bladed weapon to cut the tail off? The wiki implies you can get it with a hammer, but I've been aiming for its tail for 3 kills now and it's not coming off.

Lol, nevermind, just saw that I got tails for both rewards of this investigation. Think that's all I need.

darktangent10 you can get tails as just a reward but the actual cutting off of the monster part requires a bladed weapon or special kinds of bullets/arrows. For maximum pro plays you could focus all your hammer damage on a monsters tail and then cut it off with a boomerang :)

You can break off the ridge on a Barroths head with a blunt weapon if I recall correctly
