Thanks for the video, always full of useful information. We use the same criteria for our hay, when its seedhead is still in the boot for first cut, when the growth slows down for the second cut. Warm season grass will brown out if it gets hot and dry for an extended time - then its cut time regardless. Seems that the brown never recovers, new growth comes from the root wad. Could be wrong, just my observations. The grasses are drought tolerant, guess that's their survival mechanism. Anyway, sometimes we just cut the brown grass with a rotary mower and feed it back to the ground. If we catch it during wilt down, we will bale it - otherwise it is fertilizer. Nice hat, Sally is after me all the time about the sun. She bought me a hat that I wear when I am on the tractor for extended time, but I still keep the ole ball cap handy!
