Watched a few of your videos now as I've got a vague idea that I may like to try some embroidery on some book covers and wanted to get a better idea of what may be possible and how difficult things are. This one really got my grey matter working overtime on possibilities and the instruction is (as others have said) very good indeed. The one thing I would have liked to see is how you would have done the third example where the padding is curved (or does that require a completely different technique). I suppose I'll just have to search/watch all your other videos to see if there is an example 😉

Hello, I've watched a few of your very helpful videos. I will be doing gold work over machined embroidery, which solves that issue. They are simple bars 4 cm wide and .5 thick, which follows this video. But I have a few small chevrons, or, shallow Vs, same thickness and about 4 cm from end to end. Would you start the chevron from the middle point and work out, in separate sections, to the edges? Thanks very much for any advice. John

You adeptly slip the coil on and off the needle. How do you avoid unthreading the needle when you remove the coil to shorten or lengthen it?
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery

The thread should be doubled for this Jean so it shouldn't come undone!

A really useful video, thank you Sarah. One question please. How do you maintain the 45 deg angle when doing cutwork on a shape like an S please? eg like the soft string shape in the previous video

You have to step each purl around a tiny bit at a time so that it is always 90 degrees to the padding. This might mean stitching the purls a tiny bit closer on one side and a bit further apart on the other to achieve this. Practice and a gentle curve first! If you are on Instagram or Facebook I've just put pictures up of some cutwork like this

Thanks Sarah, that is really helpful. I'm doing the RSN diploma and my goldwork design has a lot of cutwork, so I want to get it right.

Dont you use old embroidery scissors when cutting string of beads or goldwork?
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery
@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery 4 жыл бұрын
You need a sharp pair to get accurate cuts (old scissors just mangle the gold) so I keep a good pair just for this
