Haha, Watanabe looks so amused by Hiromi :) Then again, you can't really help BUT smile when you watch Hiromi live. It's something I feel everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Austin's solo is the most intelligent 2 mins of solo piano i have ever heard. His command of phrasing and time astound me even after 1000 listens. I mourn his passing, the world is the poorer for it.

The pianist's name is Himori Uehara (sound like You-ha-da in Japanese), and she's amazing. I would go to Japan just to sit on the same piano bench with her! Check her out!

hank's killin' them voicings in the end right there. luv it. GREAT PLAYING all-around in this video... I like how with younger players, you really see that they need more notes to get there point across... look how sparse chick's playing is. i LOVED everyone's solo though. :)

Hello Folks, It's all great stuff. I'm a huge Hiromi fan at 63 years of age. She is a pounder but I think with purpose. With her own group she gives large segments of pieces over to the rhythm section and having read a bit by and about her that is a stated method. The drummer got some nice playing done during her 'pounding' I thought. Jay

Delicious dark harmonies from Hank, but my word, Hiromi gives a perfect sef-exploding solo that drives sparks into your soul. The old masters may have all the control and know the tunes inside out and back to front, but it takes a youngster like Hiromi to really burn.

It's nice to see Patitucci and Hakim, two of the best Jazz musician in the world, be a STRONG background for this two young guys. You can feel a communication between different generations, different nationalities and different races from their eyes and every motion. I think this video is a very good example for the inheritance of music.

FWIW, this info is from wikipedia. It might help in locating the rest of the concert. At age 15, Peralta was a featured performer at the 2006 Tokyo Jazz Festival, appearing with his own trio, and performing live with major jazz and jazz fusion stars Chick Corea, Hank Jones, Sadao Watanabe, John Patitucci, Omar Hakim, and the young Japanese pianist Hiromi Uehara.

ナベサダ、チックコリア、上原ひろみ、オーティン・ペラルタ、そして、ハンク・ジョーンズだと想う。すごい!! I mean, I cry. They all are talking, speaking, loving, playing on music each other, Sadao Watanabe, Sadao, Uehara, Hiromi, Autin Peralta, then, Hank Jones and Chick Corea. They are music gods, making life and time so beautiful space and time so spread into our soul and mind, spirits. Thank you.

That kid is son of the legendary Stacy Peralta. He is a legendary skateboarding. There's a film called Lords of Dogtown about him and his group (Z-Boys). I don't think that fact contributed enough for him, he has the potential to shine on his own.

Ooh, Dr. Jazz, Ima use that name :D The best way to interpret chords imo is to use their function and just play something that works in that key and goes the same way. Rhythm Changes are a good example, you can do anything really if you pretty much stay in key! There's different ways of seeing things here, but if the altered note is in the second octave and you could still play a 5, imo it has to be a #11, and you can't play a 4 on it..

I don't know what those saying "Hiromi's is the best solo" or "Chick's is" are talking about. Each solo had it's own charm. It's illogical to say that one was better. They are different musicians with different approaches to a same song. Chick's was a more relaxed solo, with a very comfortable and swinging feel, Hiromi's was energic and agressive, her trademark, Peralta's was subtle and precise, aiming more at sharper notes, and Hank's was a mature solo, one of an experienced legend.

@NJlo15 жыл бұрын
To be exact, the Db would be a C# and is a #11 usually in an altered chord. Usually the notes that are altered are the b9, b10/#9, #11 and b13. Herbie Hancock talked about a b15 one time but that's a pretty difficult note to understand how to use. Playing a Db triad on a G7 gets you somewhere, but it's not the most scientific way of seeing things ;)
