This is the twenty fifth and last installment of my build of the CV-6 USS Enterprise. In this video I am going through the entire build process, adding the final detailing and showing the end product.
The build is based on the Trumpeter 03712 kit with detail up sets from Pontos and KA-models; trying to use the best of both sets.

My father was a TBM Avenger torpedo pilot on Enterprise late 1944- May 1945. He was a member of the very first squadron to fly low level attack missions from an aircraft carrier at night and in foul weather. He was a member of Night Torpedo Squadron 90. I have the Big E card in my wallet today as she had such a huge impact on my life. I followed my dad as pilot and flew for United Airlines for 29 years. All thanks to the USS Enterprise!

The staging of all the personnel on the flight deck The weathering of the ship made your creation...visceral. I am honestly blown away at the level of detail you achieved. She looks like she’s underway & prepping for flight ops! Outstanding workmanship. If I could nitpick one thing, and it’s the ONLY thing I’ve noticed… at the stern, where the ships name is painted. From memory the letters are painted darker than the hull, almost - if not black. Because it has to be highlighted in order to be visible. Fantastic job celebrating the great CV-6 USS Enterprise. The ‘Big E’. Wonderful work! 🫡
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words! Regarding the ships name; I actually tried to find pictures of how it looked, but in all the pictures I saw the letters had the same color as the hull. You might be right that it was highlighted, but I found no proof of it. Maybe it should not be that visible for the enemy. I don't know. Thank you for your input! :)

Beautiful build! Thanks for the show, well worth the time to watch. I have 2 comments from a historian for future builds. 1: All aircraft were armed, fueled and the engines warmed up and tested in the hanger. Loose bombs and torpedoes were forbidden on the flight deck. 2: Spare aircraft were hung from the ceiling in the hanger to replace aircraft too damaged to be repaired. I hope you don't think I'm being too critical, I'm just imparting knowledge for future reference.

Thank you Robert! I am aware of your points, but how interesting would that be to look at? So I used my artistic license, and tried to make something that would be interesting to look at. Thanks for your insight!

You did a nice job building the model, the paint job looks nice as well as the weathering, and your water work is really good. However, a carrier even at its slowest speed would still be moving too fast for a captain's gig to catch up with it. And a carrier would not be underway for a captain's gig to pull up next to it. The ship would come to a full stop and lower the gangway for a whale boat, a captain's gig or admirals barge, or even a motor launch to come alongside and come aboard. Transfers at sea we're usually handled by attaching a line between the two ships while they're underway, the same way un-reps is done ,and a bosun's chair attached to them, and then hoisted across to the other ship.
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 2 ай бұрын
Thank you, glad you think so 😊 I am well aware that it isn’t realistic, but I allowed myself a bit of artistic freedom on that one to make it a bit more interesting. But thanks for the thorough explanation 👍

Now that is a difficult question. As you say there are different pros and cons to each vendor; packaging, fit, selection, instructions, plastic quality, level of detail etc etc. I have usually found an object that I would like to build, then looked at the possible vendors and aftermarket options.

That’s just an unbelievable build! Congratulations. Since perfection seems to be your goal, could I dare to make a suggestion? The water looked very realistic. But the ONE bow wave that emanated from the ship is not realistic. Several waves of varying intensity occur. But the way you presented the water seemed very realistic. Absolutely incredible.

Thank you very much Paul for those kind words 😊 I would agree with you in general on that one, but l used a reference photo from the CV-6, and it had only one bow wave.
