I love the PS2 and all the weird games that came out on it. My goal with this series is to cover all the action games of the 6th gen. Its going to be a massive undertaking and i probably won't finish it but i will certainly try.

There’s a great reason why Bujingai has music like that - Gackt is a guitarist, and I would not be surprised to find out that some of the music was played by him.

I remember going to a friend's house in the early 2000's, and seeing a Japanese rock poster on the wall. I told my friend "man, that chick on the poster would look a lot cuter if she had less makeup." He told me "uh, that's Gackt." Needless to say, that moment sent me on a decades long journey of Japanese music, perhaps only to avoid making that mistake again.

YEAAAAH SHINOBI! My 2nd favorite game ever! A game that feels so perfect when you learn it that I've put over 60 hours into it when the game is really only a couple hours long or even less when you don't get stuck. The soundtrack is also timeless. Like you said it wasn't very complicated or deep but it was so damn good at what it did. Great video. I'm definitely gonna check out gungrave.

Yeah, that's what brought me here too. lol I was able to beat it through to the last difficulty, but had to tap out around there. Easily one of the coolest, most stylistic games I've ever played and definitely one of my all time favs even if it made me want to punch my tv a few times. lmao!

I recently started using emulators and have been having so much fun. I got into video games pretty late, so I never got a chance to play the games of these generations. It seems like games back then were made to be fun or trying to be different than the competition. I understand the necessity of modern gaming companies business practices, but there's no denying that games of that decade were more entertaining. Thanks for the cool recommendations.

I've played every single WOTS series without realizing it that I already fell in love and only realizing it when I saw my crazy amount of playtime in 3 while doing killing Dojima for free sword upgrade runs. Truly, this series just special someone in my heart. Yeah, it isn't my favorite series ever (it belongs to MGS) but it always had a spot in my mind every time we had generation leap in gaming expecting a new game each time. Unfortunately, it's hard to see that we get anything past 4 at this point. Which is sad since 4, while drastically different than the rest, it still fun and perhaps the best in the series in terms of customization and contents.

The Ghost Rider game also had a lot of great behind the scenes content, whenever I unlocked something like that I would watch them over and over again, I love seeing abandoned concepts for levels, the creative process of making the game. I never once encountered the save bug you mentioned. The key with the turns on the motorcycle is to anticipate the turns and start turning as you approach said turn.

Loved all these videos. The PS2 was the highpoint of gaming in terms of what was possible technically, before budgets ballooned out of proportions, so that everything had to become way more samey. The 7th generation (PS3 and 360) was a massive disappointment for me, with just some highlights. I miss all those fun and interesting 7/10s.

I loved this video. Even though I didn't play any of these games, seeing these old graphics gave me a big dose of nostalgia. And while I've heard of some of these, some were totally new to me - like Gackt (sp?). Anyway, I think the only not-frequently-talked-about action game I ever played on PS2 was Rygar. But it's probably still fairly well-known in comparison. That game was so good, I think about it from time to time and want to play it again😭

I remember having enjoyment with the Onimusha spin-off that made it just a DMClite combat game. I don't remember the name, just how it obliterated all the concept and prestige of Onimusha and was happy about it, but it was fun so I didn't mind. And the Dororo game. Very neat.
@zeroattentiongaming820
@zeroattentiongaming820 Жыл бұрын
Onimusha never had such a spin off. The 4th game Dawn of Dreams (or Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in Japan) was a departure but still far closer to Onimusha than anything like DMC. However Genji: Dawn of the Samurai was like a hybrid of both series, is it possible you're thinking of that or the ps3 sequel Days of the Blade? The sequel was that game that was endlessly mocked for having you fight a giant demon crab in what was touted as a historically accurate conflict

Your taste in hack and slash, action, shooter, third-person, fast pace games matches my tastes in games! I started loving these types of games when I first got my hands on Shinobi and Devil May Cry way back in the early 2000s. I've been hooked ever since! I might look at some of your list since I haven't heard of some of these like the Japanese ones. Golden Knight Garo, Berserk and Ghost Rider are the only ones I haven't played yet so I'll definitely try those games out later! This is an awesome list! I'm looking forward to the next part!

A game I really enjoyed that you might like is PS2 Van Helsing, the movie tie-in. The movie is pure fun and the game they did is just an honest to god DMC clone. If you like the general dark gothic/victorian werewolf hunter aesthetic the movie absolutely captured, I 100% recommend it. Don't expect anything super special but it's exactly that obscure 6.5-7/10 serviceable yet fun type of game. Another surprisingly good DMC clone on PS2 is Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge. Once again, a lot of people overlooked it because lol movie tie in.

hey man, cool video! You've definitely convinced me to give that berserk game a go. Just one thing. You CAN sprint and shoot in gungrave. You just have to lock on while doing so. Start by running with circle, then keep L1 pressed down as you run, this will make the red reticule lock onto a nearby enemy. And then shoot :D You're holding down two buttons and repeatedly pressing a third button to shoot but its possible and you get used to it :) Makes Bunji and Bear much easier. Been playing the new gungrave and where it is cool that it just exists in the first place, it has NONE of the charm found in the original.

I've played through Bujingai a couple times, I rented it from Blockbuster, and the aspects that are good about it left a lasting impression, even though it has its fair share of problems. So I had a soft spot for it and bought it years later to do a let's play of it. One thing I have to add about it that wasn't mentioned in the video is my single favorite thing about the game; it has a unique mechanic where the time remaining for you to keep your current combo alive only ticks down while you are on the ground. If you're jumping, air dashing, running on walls, your combo numbers won't get any closer to disappearing. The game gives you so many ways to keep yourself off the ground, and you can even stay airborne indefinitely above flat ground with appropriately timed sequences of air-dash - attack - repeat, that it presents you with the thought of "can I maintain my combo through the entire level if I don't take hits and have good movement". It turns the game into "the floor is lava".

Bujingai got a weird amount of hate in my friend group at the time, mostly because it didn't measure up to DMC, but I *loved* it for how cheesy and weird it was. I think you nailed it - it's like playing a badly dubbed HK action movie. The gameplay works well enough that I would keep going just to see how off the wall it would get.

8:19 hey man for that Bossfight, it wouldn’t surprise me that no one didn’t figure it out because it took me a long time to realize that it’s supposed to be like that every time he gets damage to the point he had a high in one of those pillars to recover. However once you realize that each time that he recovers, he can’t fully 100% recover from the previous times. To the point He can’t fully recover, and that’s when you take him out. I hopes that anyone reads this can understand what I’m saying and I hope that helps.

This is a great genre for this series, hack and slash games seem to be forgotten pretty quickly. I remember Gungrave, Shinobi, and Onimusha (shown in the intro, not sure if it's gonna be in the series) all being a pretty big deal at the time. I even think Gungrave got a full multi-page preview in EGM or Game Informer or something before it came out, I was definitely aware and excited for it before it came out, and Blockbuster seemed to push Shinobi HARD, everybody I knew had rented it, but nobody owned it.
