Driving our tank around in one of our fields. It's fully road legal, has rubber pads on tracks, is powered by a 6 cylinder Jaguar sports petrol engine and has a top speed of 50-60 MPH. In the video the fuel is a bit old, so the engine is not firing all to well, but its still going strong!

@astrialkil The market is very specialised in the UK, you really have to know what you're doing. Most vehicles are pretty cheap despite their low numbers. For instance I can pick up an FV432 APC (our equivalent to the M113) for around £5000 and in damn good condition too.

If you have problems with registering one in your country, register it in one which has less restrictions, and then import it. That way your just registering a pre-registered vehicle and AFAIK, anything before 1960 doesn't need a MOT! Or road tax. But fuel economy doesn't work out!

@columnsx Yes, I believe there is a width limit of 5.5 meters. The law concerning military vehicles and their legality on the road isn't very clear cut. For example, the FV432 can be registered with the DVLA and insured, yet it would be illegal to drive it on the public roads as it exceeds the 5.5 meter width limit.

that is awesome. i've always wondered - Is there any weight limit to what you can legally drive on the road in the UK? surely a 50Tonne+ tank will damage the road surface, rubber tracks or not!

@columnsx You'd probably have to go through a number of different enquiries as to what class of vehicle the T80 could fall under and if it would/could be legally driven. Not only does it have to meet width requirements, but other areas such as braking and controls must also fall within certain standards.

One thing about the usa , not many rpg or stuff that can penetrate armor - so these would be great at a protest

@skywiz3 Any military vehicle has to have it's weapons deactivated before going on to the civilian market in the UK.

@jitzero For a armored vehicle? A M113 was $75,000 here in the states and that was back in 1988! You must not have much of a market over there! Even at twice the price Sabre's would be snapped up quickly!

Its legal on the road but you need a cat H on your licence to drive one and it helps to have another set of eye's in the turret. And they can be expensive to buy but if you shop around you could get them for as little as 6000 that need work up to 16 grand for a runner. 3000 is a stupid quote . I seen a Spartan for 6,500 in running order and just needed tidying up .

Too bad these are not DOT legal for American or Canadian road driving. I bet it would be real fun to drive one of these down the free way or downtown street.

nice looking CVRT, have you just started driving tracked vehicles? just a friendly bit of advice, you really needed to change up a gear because you are over revving a bit, that is why she is burbling and back firing a little bit god bless

The CVRT stands for combat vehicle reconnaissance tracked.. it's not a tank as such.. in days gone by it probably would have been classed as a light tank. The scorpion version had a 76mm gun which was quite potent for its size and there was a 90mm version to for export. Armour was very thin though it could stop 7.62 maybe more but I wouldn't like to try it. A great race vehicle tho...
