There was a movie like the one you theorized, it was called "The Last Starfighter" I liked it

The Last Starfighter is exactly the movie you just described. 80's classic. It's missing the giant robots but literally everything else is exactly the same.

When i was 5..i found a skill for the first and second robot.. The skill will activated when ur health bar re so low and u need to push some button(sorry i forgot) but the skill was very powerful.. The first robot's skill is something like flying while u make the sword saber longer and capture the enemies(can only use one time and need to recharge if u want to do it again) .. And the second robot's skill is like transform into another powerful form(have limited time) but so exciting when using it

if your still curious DBZ did it first the creator of sonic was a big fan of the show(or manga not 100 percent sure) and wanted to do something like that

This game might be old as hell but this game is definitely without a doubt fun to play. If i could download it to my PS4 I would play the hell out of it regardless of how short it is

Most people who aren't noobs prefer balanced games. Its easier to clear story modes with Overpowered Characters such as the Sentinel in Marvel VS Capcom, or Seth in Streetfighter.

In my eyes Team Fortress 2 is a near perfect game. Its the very definition of well balanced and designed. Plus its damn near impossible to get bored with due to the fact that once you get bored with one class you can move onto another one. Its probably the most fun I've had with a game since Arkham Asylum.

Actually, you can play both Rebel Assault 2 AND Tie Fighter, and on Windows 8, using a program called DOSBox! I can PM you instructions if you want (once I get files of the game CDs so I can make the instructions more accurate)

Heheh laughed out loud at that response. Even though I like using overpowered characters for shits and giggles she just looks cheap, I prefer games with balanced characters such as Team Fortress 2 and Super Smash Brothers.

The superior version of the, Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram is on the 360 digital market place for like 15, and runs perfectly, and has control settings to mimic the arcade. There are 4(?) Virtual-On games (not counting ports). Operation Moongate (This one), Oratorio Tangram (best), Marz (Worst) and 4Force (idk). In Oratorio Tangram you can air dash, so it's tons better. I don't know if you knew this or not,+Darklordjadow1 but if you didn't I highly recommend checking out Oratorio Tangram. Also if you like this game, check out the Gundam vs Gundam series on PSP and PS3.

My copy crashes on my laptop when i die except when i die with Fei-Yen and Bal Bas Bow. which lets me continue but i always hated Fei-Yen because of the low armor it gets her kill in very hard mode so quickly against fast targets.

Yeah exactly. Never played either but I've seen both in action. Most games I would get on steam and I got Team Fortress 2 for free, even if you don't like first person shooters you should at least try Team Fortress 2 and if you don't like it you can delete it.

My problem with Marz was that the controls felt sluggish, that and the story mode missions were somewhat confusing at times. That's why I usually play its arcade mode. Awesome review by the way! CTVO was one of those games that I always played at my local arcade. Also the movie you suggested was sort of made, it was called The Last Starfighter(1984).

Hey DLJ a new game similar to Virtual-On is gonna come out on steam greenlight this weekend. Take a look at it. It has a trailer here in youtube. Its called Garrison: Archangel. Hope you like it

This is definitely one of those series that has just gotten slap after slap when it comes to localization and presence in the west. The first game is relatively unscathed, but updated ports of the game almost never come out in the west (Most egregiously, the Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 31 version, which came out for the PS2 in 2007, which lets you play as not only Jaguarandi, but an improved Fei-Yen and friggin Z-GRADT itself!). Not only that, but localizations of games like MARZ are notoriously awful with butchered stories and terrible voice acting. And the bitchslaps continue to this day, with a PS4 remastering of the first 3 games (called Virtual-ON Masterpiece) once again getting denied a western release. In spite of the fact that living in the digital age, and the games having practically no dialogue meaning localization would naturally be dirt simple (Hell, the Sega Ages version is mostly English anyways!) and publishing without discs costs practically nothing. It really is a crying shame.

Solid review! I've been trying to remember the name of this game for years after seeing it in arcades and in my school's computer rooms, so, thank you! But haven't you ever seen The Last Starfighter? It's basically what you described: arcade machine doubles as a military combat simulator which enlists anyone who can beat it. Neat concept either way. : )

Edit: Also this isn't a typical fighter its a subgenre of fighting games called arena fighter. Which are typically meant for people who dont enjoy execution as much and want a PSEUDO fighter experience.
