In this video i'll be reviewing the Cyberpower CP1500PFCLCD UPS Unit. Not only will we cover a great deal with hardware and front interface dispaly, we'll also go over the software installation and configuration. I'll be going over all the pros and cons this unit has to offer over it's competition.

The biggest "con" with any of the modern UPS units, at least that I'm aware of, is they still use some sort of lead-acid chemistry battery. This means even the very best of them will only last 3-5 years, sometimes even less than that. Why the manufacturers of these devices haven't switched over to the much more voltage-stable lithium iron-phosphate battery chemistry is beyond me. They must own stock in a lead recycling facility, or something?
@SystematicHardware
@SystematicHardware 8 ай бұрын
Yeah i'm not sure why either. Lithium is expensive. I've seen a couple but they are lithium ion, so it looks like the chemistry is just starting to show up.
@jasonbroom7147

@@SystematicHardware - At this stage of the game, lithium iron-phosphate batteries aren't very expensive, especially if you're looking at a UPS as something you'd like to last 5-10 years. At the prices being charged for some of these products, it's unconscionable that they're still using lead-acid batteries.

I just found out that this unit will apparently support the CyberPower RCCARD100 which can be installed in the removable card bay on back and provides a lan port for web app based control. So this would be a huge advantage over the APC sine 1500va unit imo.

I was really hoping to see an oscillograph image of the output voltage on battery power. The issue I have is that I've seen multiple contemporary datasheets and Cyberpower supplied user documents for the exact SAME model where the spec for this parameter varies using four different descriptions to describe the output waveform. In particular, the "PFC Sinewave" datasheet seemed written in a way that they could claim it was "certified" to support Active Power Factor Correction PSUs, but never actually came right out and said it was a "pure" sinewave anywhere in the document. That was not reassuring. 1) "Pure Sinewave" 2) "Adaptive Sinewave" 3) "Sinewave" 4) "PFC Sinewave" An image of the output voltage waveform on battery power would really help.

Great vid. You helped me decide to get this unit and after a few months I love the device... however: The software is total garbage. If you don't need the auto-shut down feature (the only real reason to use their software) than you don't need to install their software. If you want to monitor UPS loads and outputs this can all be done with Hardware Info. Hardware info can access all the device data through USB connection without needing the CyberPower software installed (because as I mentioned the cyberPower software is junk). The cyber power monitoring sofware eats up WAY more resources than it has any right too and it has caused system hangs for me.

I was thinking about using an oscilloscope to take a look at the wave, but technically Cyber Power states its a PFC Sinewave, standing for "Power Factor Correction". I'm actually trying to find out what the difference between pure and pfc is now. I might do a video on it.

Another quote from Cyber Power, "The CyberPower Systems PFC Sinewave UPS safeguards mission-critical server, network, and telecommunications equipment that require seamless pure sine wave power." So i'm feeling more confident of pure sine wave. Still feel like comparing APC and CyberPower with an oscilloscope.

@@user-pu8bl1dw7q If you look up a power supply calculator regarding your hardware specs, it calls for roughly a 850w power supply. It all comes down to how much power draw your specs pull from the power supply. So even though you have a 1200w power supply doesn't mean a 12900kf and a rtx 3090 ti will draw that much. I think it'll be fine but if you're that concerned and you can spend more money, check out the CyberPower PR1500LCD Smart App Sinewave UPS System. It's max wattage is 1500w which will give you plenty of extra headroom and will come close to maxing out a typical American 15 amp circuit.

Oh, I kinda thought UPS is supposed to be something like more advanced version of power strip, and as such to be able to handle similar amounts of power. I mean, my 12$ power strip from supermarket is capable of handling up to 1800W! Anyway, thanks for clarification, I think I'll stick to my good old, nothing-fancy-about-it power strip that served me pretty well so far, and just keep my eye on any incoming shoddy weather. And you were right, UPS that'd suit me are _damn_ expensive!

Questions 1. If this UPS is fully charged and turned off and is plugged out why does it make the beep sound and won’t come on? It only comes on when it’s plugged into a outlet 2. Should I keep this plugged in in my outlet always? Would it harm the battery and its life cycle? Or do I need to unplug and turn off when not in use? 3. How to use this device to make it lost for atleast 6 years? Because the last time I had one of these it’s only lost alittle over a year
@SystematicHardware

Not sure I understand question 1. If the unit is not plugged into the wall and you turn it on, it should beep at you (assuming the beep is enabled) to notify you of no grid power. For question 2 ups units are primarily lead acid and you don't want to drain them unless absolutely necessary beyond 50%. Leave it plugged into the wall and on is fine. Questions 2 is the answer to question 3.
