The Edgerunners are hired to find the missing daughter of a rich corporate exec. Their investigation brings them face to face with multiple gangs, and a threat that might no longer be human. I like the idea that Lucy was originally supposed to be in a different Professor's Psych Class, but the Vampire nut finagled her into one of his classes. So he met her somewhere (Freshman Mixer, or a previous class), then this semester had her put into his class. Explain that sometimes the professors do that.... maybe they see promise in a student, or to schmooze a particular parent. With a skill roll, hint at some less savory reasons....

While working on the Italian translation of this adventure I anticipated a lot of the points made by Seth, especially the ones of about linking the professor to the rest of the story. Surely you can pull together a lot of Dracula's power set with cyberwear, so you can make that boss fight terrifying. I think I'd change the "Stake" to something like an antil-cyberwear/electronic spike the police or military might employ against hard targets, but it's also preloaded with some messed up BD's and programs. In the old legends, stakes weren't ment to kill vampires, but to literally nail them into their coffins so they couldn't rise to hunt the living. So I'm thinking the reason the gang members are so freaked out by it is because they've seen them used as punishment, torture and execution devices, with former vampires, snitches or hated enemies being staked and displayed as a warning. But since the gang sound like they have a theatrical bent, the bodies are dismissed as props in their macabre shows.
@kevingriffith6011
@kevingriffith6011 Жыл бұрын
I actually like that the stake is just a piece of wood, truth be told. It gives the item layers and honestly makes it more complex than a straightforward lock-and-key thing. By having all the vampires recoil from it when the party is presented with it, you clue the party in that the vampires believe it to be powerful. If the party takes it at face value and tries to stake the vampire with it then they'll find out pretty quickly that it's just an ordinary hunk of wood, but if the party is smart then they'll realize that the stake has power as a symbol, not as a weapon, and can use it to manipulate how this vampire acts.

Can't watch the video rn cos we're halfway through playing this scenario, so cool to see you reviewing it! But this has not been at all a good experience for us. We investigated in good faith, spent several hours of game time asking after the missing persons case, investigating the professor directly before going to the show. Felt stonewalled constantly. Then the attack happened and the "story" just lurched forward and happened at us. Receiving plot dumps from the Philharmonic Vampires and orders to go kill the Professor. Not felt railroaded like this in years. Not sure how much of that is on the scenario and how much is on the GM.

Glad to have found this video while prepping for this run for my players. Added some elements to the story to give it a more "organic" progression as well as leaning into the roles of several of my players. One is a young Exec, so I had her as an employee as an employee of Rocklin itself, and had her as a friend/mentor to Lucy, so she was personally assigned to get a team together to find Lucy. Also had a Fixer in the group, who around the same time got the call from "Rhinemeyer's representative". Hilarity ensued when the Exec contacted the Fixer, with contract negotiations. The crew also had a Lawman, acting as a PI, so I wanted to give him a chance to use his skills, went down the investigation route before the stage show, and they found the professor's office. Left off the session after the battle at the theater, where the crew will do some downtime activity to likely do more investigations before getting summoned to the noodle shop

Finally finished this scenario last night, took us two sessions. I would say it needs a lot of work and that gamemasters are going to have to put effort in to present a beginning that doesn't feel like it railroads the PCs into attending the show even if they don't want to. You may also need to account for the tone of the scenario and that it can whiplash, going from investigating kidnapped girls with an unknown timer till their death to talking to Bela Lugosi in a Romanian accent and being told to stake the main bad guy. My players decided that the Vampyres themselves were responsible for letting this guy get away with so many kidnappings despite apparently knowing where Ruthven was this entire time and nearly ended up in a firefight with the Vamps after the shooting at the opera house. I took into account some of the suggestions Seth gave here and they worked out, just the scenario itself needs to be worked over.

Cool recap. I agree that it does seem a bit linear. I'd maybe remove, or at least delay, the noodle truck invitation part. Introduce some other plot thread that the players could follow to lead them to that info on their own. Thinking off the top of my head, perhaps something like this: first, incentivize the players to visit the professor's office earlier. Have clues in that office that directly point to the professor being a vampire. Then, once the opera shooting occurs, because it took place in a non-combat zone, the police are actually investigating. The players took part in the fight, so the police were turned onto them by witnesses. They're called in for questioning. While in the police station, they overhear chatter that would somehow lead them to try and visit the Vampires on their own. I don't know, this is all just a quick idea. I'm sure something much better and actually good could be drummed up with enough thought. You could always revert back to the noodle truck part if the players are clearly stuck without any idea on how to progress.

I ran my guys through a version of this. It went pretty much according to plan. My intro was via a NCPD detective that the characters have an "in" with. Final battle the netrunner got into one turret but bailed as it was too dangerous and the party cyborg tacked a turret over and turned it on the second turret. Poor old Lord Ruthven barely got a slash off after his villiain's soliloquy. My players really worked on their Wardrobe and Style skills for the vampire show. It was quite funny. One thing I had my guys find was a title deed to the chapel. Through some legal shenanigan they made themselves the trustees and took ownership of the chapel to turn it into their base of operations and night club.

Well Seth, it's time for our last part of The Incomplete Constellation. One more time. Hello Seth, Lime, and Today I'm going to be continuing the Tale of my Campaign 'The Incomplete Constellation'. Part 10: The Complete Constellation The players: 'Bill', ' Kathrine', 'Chief Jeef' and 'Jemma'. Their Characters: Ayingleheim the Goliath Barbarian, Amayali the Dragonblood Elf Monk, Valociel the Aasimar Paladin, and Ilieptra the Tiefling sorcerer. The DM: Me. Last time: After passing the Trials of two Dragon Gods, and defeating every other 'Hero' looking for it, they claimed the Final Star. This Session probably isn't the epic conclusion you would want or expect, Vigovek was defeated, The Dragon Gods were impressed, the other forces that had stood in the way had all been conquered. This finale was epic in a very different way, because when they followed the Great Star Road to the Incomplete Constellation and finally reached the place where the final star was supposed to rest, I asked the player who inspired this quest if he was satisfied with our campaign, I asked him if he'd seen and done everything he wanted with the Godsquad and Valociel. And Chief Jeef looked me in the eyes and said "No. I've had a great time, but it's not over. For starters, we've got two and a half hours left this session, and more than that, you just showed us how big your world is. You had us make a new set of Gods for You to play with, and I can't wait to see what you do with 'em." So I said, "Well, you got me. You guys have one more fight before we wrap up." And I put them up against a Monster from one of our other Campaigns. The Star Eater. The Star Eater was an absolute pushover for the Squad now, because they're Real Deal Gods, but that was always the plan. The Star Eater was like Vigovek, brought back to show just how far the Godsquad had come. They had to refight a lot of the old bosses because of the Star Eater's 'Memory Nova' ability, but that didn't slow them down either. The fight ended with Valociel plunging Swiftriver into the Creature's head. It Burst into hundreds of tiny stars, resembling its former self, and truly finishing the Constellation. Five Heroes slaying a mighty beast, Five Gods Ascending. Ayingleheim became a God of War, Earth and Winter. Ruling over The Unsummered Lands, but spending most of his time appearing personally before armies of his followers and leading them to Glory on the Cold, Heartless fields of battle, where nature's original law is most harshly enforced. Only The Winners Survive. Nehkalion became a God of Death and Magic. He became the Majesty of Death, Embodiment of the Value it gives to Life. His very own weave underlies countless realms, and overlaps with His mother's. So now Mystra was the one using Knockoff magic, just like he wanted. Ilieptra became a Sun Goddess of Knowledge. Her and Nehkalion shared a domain realm, The Shining Enigma, which was fitting because they followed Valociel & Amayali's example only a few years later. What do I mean by that? Well, if you recall Amayali and Valociel got engaged back in Yanghai, and their Wedding was one of our final Scenes. The New Elven Goddess of Glory, Honour and Strength, & Her Husband, God of Order, Alliance, and Justice. Together they ruled over the newly created plane of Neuragante, a Realm between The Abyss and The Hells, that ascended infinitly, as tall as the Abyss was Deep. From which a Tide of a New Elven People, the Judiadrine (Order Elves) formed from righteous souls and the fallen worshippers of Amayali, emerged to face Evil and Chaos wherever it rose. Their Son, Sorakiel (you might remember him for being a potential one-man Mortalicassionè.) Made all planes and all realms Shudder at once, the very moment he was born. Every single God and cosmic being knew the exact moment that Sorakiel came into existence and felt a Chill touch of Fear run through them, knowing that the multiverse had changed Forever. Ilieptra & Nehkalion's daughter being born was slightly less existentially terrifying, but only slightly, Ivrakoth's birth made Magic itself quake, and caused the Styx to burst its banks. Even the Tzai-Ral, the most powerful Deities the Multiverse had ever known until now, were walking on eggshells when it came to Sorakiel and Ivrakoth, their Parents and Ayingleheim, because the Godsquad had attained a level of divine strength previously thought impossible through the Completed Constellation, and Their Children had been ***Born*** with that power, and something even beyond it, before they had even a single worshipper. So ended the Incomplete Constellation campaign...... And so began the March Toward Mortalicassionè. But that's a story for next time. Until then Seth, you have a great day. Zack the NCP: Y'know, Embryce and Cinderyon said that the Godsquad would never be a match for the Tzai-Ral, but I don't think they had any idea just how powerful they were gonna get. Plus, why would they say that to the Ultimate Worthy Heroes? Guys who never crossed nobody that didn't have it coming? And considering the fact that now they're scared of a pair of Babies, I think they're hiding something. Huh. You figured it out. The Tzai-Ral have been evil this whole time. Zack: Spoilers! Lime! Your players could be reading this, remember? Yeah... about that. I think They already know. Zack: What do you mean 'they already know'? It's kind of a big deal in 'March toward Mortalicassionè' and I don't want to spoil that too much for Seth. Let's just say... the Only good Tzai-Ral not named Embryce is a Dead one. Literally. Zack: Yeesh. And Vigovek's not staying down either? Remind me not to play at your table any time soon. Hey Zack Zack: What? Don't play at my table any time soon.

I used this module for the start of a campaign and made some changes, like the attack on the opera house and the motivation for lord ruthven to kidnap womans, also added that one if my players characthers girlfriend was among the other kidnaped, I believe this is a great intro campaign for people who have only played fantasy rpgs since it has sort of a "dungeon" and big bad monster at the end of the story

All the missing students could have been interviews on the video by the roommate. She has a copy. This would lead to the prof. There could be a list of addresses in his office from when he was searching for a place to do the sculpting, to lead to the chapel. Also, a collection of books on brainwashing in the office as a clue.

Would love to hear if you guys do any more of Tales of the Red. I've only run this and Drummer & The Whale with my table but they enjoyed both. Sadly both did feel like they gave the GM a ton of info but didn't write in points for that info to be given to the players, so I had to adjust on my own for both.

You pointed out some things very interesting. Most notably is nothing sounded cyberpunk unless told explicitly is very cyberpunk. As you summarize here, it sounds just at home in a pathfinder session. So definitely is where I would spend my time. Take all the classic horror tropes but really cyberpunk it out. Then bring in the investigation. If it was me? I would have the common thread between all the missing students be something to do with the theatre showing perhaps. Find tickets to different shows. Have the villian be a patron and being where he sees these brides. This gives options for show as well. Get tickets? Sneak in? And reason those goombas break in is to get something of our missing girl from her role. Being a lead would be too obvious. But perhaps she was an understudy who took the role for one night. So they attacked to get 'what is hers'

Good to see that George finally decided to run you through another game after the What Bug incident. One thing I'm curious about is, would you say that CP 2020 and CP Red are mostly interchangeable? Like, is there a vast difference in the way modifiers for gun mods and such work, cause i wonder if you can take the runny jumpy shooty style of 2020 and use it in Red without too much finagling.

Up to a point. In my experience using 2020 with red weapons and armor transferred over the easiest, cyborg we're being a little harder but could be done with a little work, however full borg stuff and programs were just not compatible. On the plus side 2020 scenarios are easily transferable with a little fluff adjustment.

I agree about the linearity of the scenario, but honestly, that appeals. I haven't run any Cyberpunk since the 90's and so for me this scenario is a great jumping in point as a GM for the mechanics of the new version. I keep meaning to run this, but just haven't yet.

In a way, this reminds me of a straight to video movie from 1987, called, "Vampire at Midnight". It is a bad movie, but I really like the premise of the plot. No spoilers, but it is about LAPD detective hunting a "vampire-like serial killer" who is a motivational specialist.

I would have the players needing to make reports back to their benefactor regularly. Then have the master use that info,nation to send some member out to cover it up. So if the players backtrack, they may run into them. The Professor need a laky that act as his "mortal slave." One that can gather what the Professor needs and the like. Then lets the players follow him/her around to find the hidout. Edited to added: Then at the end have a player look in a mirror and see floating clothes only to look back to see the Professor in those clothes just leaving the player view.
