Thanks for this interesting video, I learned a lot! I've used the scheme once and it was a HUGE help for getting my first commuter bicycle during the covid times winter of 2020/21. It was almost impossible to buy a cheap or second hand bicycle in the UK then, there was no stock. So I had to spend more than I wanted to, and Cycle to Work helped me do that. I think I may have become a lifelong bike shop customer. I'm about to buy my second bike through Cycle to Work. I agree that it needs reform, for instance, I believe that you can't buy a second hand bike through it? I think you should be able to. And the terms and conditions are almost impossible to understand. I strongly agree that self-employed people should be able to use it.

Hi, and thanks for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that the Cycle to Work scheme was such a big help for you, especially during the challenging times of the pandemic. Buying a bike can indeed be a significant investment, and it's wonderful that the scheme has made it more accessible for you. Your feedback on the need for reform is valuable, particularly regarding the ability to purchase second-hand bikes and the clarity of terms and conditions. I agree that making the scheme more inclusive for self-employed individuals would be a positive step forward. Enjoy your new bike purchase and happy cycling!🙂

This is such an amazing thing and we’re very lucky we get it. I would however like to see possible help for carers as any of us caring full time for a loved one can’t get out to a job , we do get help from the government but it’s just enough to live on. I have a bike thankfully and the days I get where my sister comes to give me a break I cycle. It does my mental health so good and keeps me fit so I can do my job to my best ability. However if I hadn’t already had a bike I’d of never been able to afford one with the wage I’m on.

So basically you are getting government gibs in an indirect manner (by getting a tax break to buy a bicycle, essentially getting tax money indirectly) and this goverment gibs are not enough so you want more, lol. Also lol at hearing how low income people in the UK need help buying a bicycle, you live in one of the richest countries in the world, just buy a bicycle lmao, I love it when rich first world dwellers roleplay as poor people.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. While it's true that the UK is considered a wealthy country, poverty and inequality still exist, even in affluent nations. The Cycle to Work Scheme aims to provide access to bikes for employees, supporting both physical activity and sustainable transportation. Jonathan Harrison's proposal to reform the scheme aims to address issues where it may not be benefiting local businesses and employees as intended. It's all about ensuring fair access and distribution of resources. Appreciate your thoughts!
