Family cycle tour the length of the Hebridean Way, Easter 2019. A long edit for family viewing when we are all older. The boys ages at the time were 12,10 & 8. We cycled just over 200 miles over 11 days, with nine wild camps, one hostel and one friend's house as stopping off places. We were fortunate to enjoy mostly dry weather although cold and windy at times.

Ahh, cycling with kids. Brings back memories of the delights when ours were that age. They are now near 31 and 29 now. One is still a keen and active cycle-tourist, the other has done nothing since the last tour of Tasmania when she was 18. Touring with young kids always takes on an extra level of organisation. Well done to take on such a journey.

What a great bike tour you have done with your family, there is nothing sweeter than seeing a family bike touring. We cycle tour here in Australia, (not camping but stay in caravan park cabins) and loved watching your KZfaq video. It would have been a challenge cycling in an area that is virtually treeless, no shelter from the wind. It reminded me and my wife of the times we have cycled at a place in Tasmania named Bothwell as it was first settled by Scottish migrants, getting blown off our bikes on each time we cycle through there. Again so lovely to see a family getting out of the 'easy life' and being adventurous. Awrrebest from Oz.

Hi Sharon, thanks for your comments. I got the bus to Fortwilliam and then hitched to Oban (which was quicker than waiting for the bus) and then drove back to Ullapool to pick everyone up. Took a whole day!

- It was a journey of courage. Passage through not very cozy, inhospitable terrain and gloomy weather. I give a lot of respect to the boys and especially to the little one - he is a hero. Now they have the idea of overcoming other spaces ... - And parents will be left with care for them and help in developing plans for future trips ... - P.S. And what does the expression "russian impressions" on 18/47 mean? - Is it an alogism in action or a trend in art?!. It looks like 1, with which I agree after 24.02.22, attack on Ukraine ... 🚲🏆❣

Hi Thank you for your comments. The boys watch a lot of you tube videos and at the time were enjoying experimenting with Russian accents! This was back in 2020. This year we are planning to cycle 700 miles the length of France.

Great Video here, thanks a lot. I am planning to do the trip some time over the summer with a couple of mates and had one or two questions for you please? How difficult were the climbs inbetween Leverburgh and Tarbert, and then Tarbert and Ballalan? How well signposted was the whole route - did you need to use both electronic maps and paper maps? And lastly, was there plenty of spaces of the side of the road where one could pitch a tent, or would you have plan ahead to find flat land ? Thanks very much, and love the video.
@adventuretraveller007
@adventuretraveller007 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Archie Generally well signed and you could almost ride without a map but some of the signs are quite small so can be easy to miss if you're not careful. The two hills you mention can be a challenge but not desperate and have been cycled by an 8 year old, albeit with some walking. Going S to N the first two thirds is easier to find campsites. The vegetation very tussocky in last third making it harder to find suitable spots but being imaginative should help. Have a great time it's a fantastic trip. Hope you get good weather.

There probably are GPX files etc of the route that you can download from somewhere but I don't know. We just used paper maps in case we couldn't get internet connection. It's also pretty well signed on the ground.
