as someone who raced my street stock 72 H2 in 1972 what is DD/M? It's obviously not a stock class, and how do you set six records?
@SharpByCoop

@@jackhammer111 Thank you. It was 'DD' (750 cc 2stroke. D being 750cc.) M = Modified. Open. 1975 May: I dropped the record from 10.87 et (Tony Nicosia's @ 131mph) to 10.65, 10.52, 10.39, and then closed at 10.12 et. All through the course of that season. The 10.12 record set at Atco in October, also bettered his MPH record to 135.33. So.... FIVE records. Still good!

Gotta love the 2 strokes! When I was a kid I learned to ride on the neighbors old mx80 yamaha then got my own tm75 and rode that for a couple years and traded that in for the first year RM125 that a suzuki mechanic used to race. Didn’t realize it was kitted until I met a guy riding a stock one, as it was really fast. Got into street riding years later and remember the kawasaki’s that were around. A 500 street racer really caught my attention as a kid, but I found an RZ350 with Toomey pipes and rode that until I had a friend of a friend sell me a suzuki RG500 that needed work. That thing was a hoot when I got it back on the road. Paid 2k for it wrecked and sold it for 8k after riding it for 7 years way before the prices went way up. Wish I still had that one. Square 4, water cooled, cassette tranny. What an engineering marvel that suzuki produced to commemorate Barry Sheene winning gp 3 out of four years in a row. I can still smell the memories.

A 1989 read legal CR250 was the most fun bike i ever had. My late older brother got himself a 1981 MTX 50 when he turned 16, sold it to me when he got a car, and i still have that bike. Restored it a number of years ago. For therapeutic means i have a number of very small 3.5cc methanol/nitromethane engines :)

Jack, I've loved two strokes since I was a teenager! My first was a 1962 Vespa 125 single, then I had a Lambretta 150 single, then I had a 1980 Vespa PX 125 with a Tony Smith racing 160 big bore kit and custom pipe! Then I had a 1996 Aprilia RS 250! right after that one another 1998 Aprilia RS250 Cup Challenge bike!!! Love the sound the smell!!!

Had the usual set of Spec II pipes, rejetted accordingly, with extra plate Barnett clutch with gorilla springs, 2" over aluminum swingarm, tapered roller steering head bearings, dual disc front end off of an early Z1, and numerous other mods. It would run heads up with my Honda CBX in a drag race(until I turboed the CBX)and was reliable as a rock. Total of 7 moving parts in the engine made for simplicity at its finest. Badass video, castor oil smell is unforgettable!😎😎

I would love to try a KX500 2 stroke just to feel that raw power :) I now drive a 2019 KTM 500 4 stroke, has lot of power that is easy to control but there is something very fun with larger 2 strokes even if it scares the hell out of you lol. My favorite bike of all time was a 1983 KX125 modified with shocks front and rear from Zuzuki RM, it handeled like a dream on gravel and is the only bike I have felt comfertable doing power slides with.

I knew a fellow who built and raced a record breaking H2 drag bike. He was a very innovative builder, and was respected and well connected in H2 race circles. Some of the biggest names in H2 racing today knew him well. When most racers were simply sending their engines to Paul Gast, he did almost all of his own porting, tuning, fabricating etc. He was quite possibly the very first racer to put nitrous on an H2. He told me this, and to this day I have no reason to doubt it. Later he solved the fragile transmission issue that plagues all H2 drag racers, and mated a Z1 900 transmission to his bike. This was an incredible feat of engineering, design and fabrication. He was a master welder, machinist and fabricator, and did everything himself. It worked flawlessly for many seasons, until he retired from racing and finally parked the bike for good. To this day, I haven't seen another H2 with such a modification. He told me it made 200 HP, and weighed a mere 200 pounds. He was super meticulous at shaving weight, and said this was very important for an H2, since they were so limited on displacement. His 60-foot times were some of the best, and he painstakingly kept up with this. He said his bike was always stock bore too - 748cc. In the very early 90s he rode it to a record breaking 8th mile pass in 5.18 seconds. It was a perfect, beautiful pass. I was there, and was blown away by the spectacle. I never forgot it either. I was near the finish line, and his front wheel was an inch of the ground when he went by. He offered to sell me the bike for $3000.00 when he quit racing, without the nitrous, which he concluded was worth a few extra thousand for the innovative "tricks" that he had perfected and made it special and so competitive. I had grown up on Triples, but I wouldn't have ridden that beast with the nitrous anyway. I was a staving young husband and soon-to-be father with a hefty mortgage though, and had lots of other bills that come with starting a family. I now wish I had done it anyway, and could donate it to the Barber's Museum so others could appreciate it. I often wonder what became of that bike. The 2-stroke racing community lost a world class racer and gentleman when he passed away in 2011 at just 58 years of age. RIP, Steve Jacks.

I grew up with Kawasaki H1’s and H2’s. They were made for drag racing. For their era they were the fastest. Then came the CB 750 and Z1-900. It was all over. Saw Tony Nikosia at Beech Bend Drag Way in the early 70’s and I worked for Mike Murdock before he started Murdock Racing Enterprises and invented the air shifter.

When I came up in juniors everything was 2-strokes. My first “real bike” was a 1985 CR80R. I was 9 years old and I got it from a friend’s older brother who upgraded to a 125. I remember being in that strange middle ground between terrified and exhilarated when I first rode it. Then, I got that same older kid’s 1993 CR125R after he got an RM250 when I was 15. I kept that bike until about 5 years ago (though I’ve had many others through the years, including a couple of 500s which gave me the same terrified/exhilarated feeling as my first CR125R) when I gave it to my nephew for him to learn to work on and ride 2 strokes. He got it running like it was just rolled off the showroom floor and absolutely loves the thing. He did upgrade the suspension, but other than that it’s all stock and he absolutely rips on it.

It felt like you were riding CB 350 until you hit about 4000 rpm and then all hell would break loose! We used to go down to the docks in Yokohama at night and have drag races. My friend didn’t like riding fast but heck I sure did! That bike would pull wheels 1 sr, 2nd and 3rd gear. I would have to lean forward practically sitting on the tank just to keep that front end down. It was FAST. Great trip down memory lane.....as I had an old, unused and rusty Suzuki GT550 back in the early 80's ...which I completely stripped back and rebuilt it into a full cafe racer,,,with full engine tune, ported barrels, flatslide carbs and racing exhausts, ...the rubber frame was strengthened and braced, with clip on handle bars and a box section swinger and some GS mag wheels....and of course better brakes. But Man....that thing was a real loud, gnarly, and pretty quick beastie for the time....and could be heard from miles away which used to annoy the neighbors 😂 But had so many great memories, fun times and scary moments for many years .... until the lure and offer of a friends Suzuki GS1000 came along...so sadly I had to sell the 550 and let it go.

I remember riding behind some 2 stroke bikes back in the 70s. The smell of those exhausts would give you a headache and make you sick after a while.

1984 KR250, tandem twin rotary disc engine. Took it for a test ride, got around the corner and grabbed a handful of clutch and dumped it………… near flipped the bastard, had my toes dragging on the ground and my head on the tank and I shit my pants, rode it back gingerly and said “I’ll take it”😂

I've had several 2S, Bultaco 350, Ossa 250, Suzuki RH 250, Kawasaki H1 Rickman et some others from 50 to 500 cc. But my preferred 2 strokes was my Honda NS 400 R. Good usable engine, good chassis, good brakes. The best all around on road, and rather reliable. On second, I've just tried, not owned a Suzuki RG 250 Gamma VJ 23 1998, 70 HP 150 kg wet, that was the closer a road bike can be to a racing bike. Extremely delicate to tune.

Kh400. I died on it Nov 11, 1983. Ambulance driver brought me back. He still remembers that day more than I do. VS. Dodge Tradesman which failed to yield in a LH turn. Passenger door frame. Support post and side door frame were helmet damage direct push from front angle.

When I was a teenager I had a Hodaka Ace 100. I installed a reed valve intake manifold with a 32 mm Mikuni carburetor. I drilled some big holes in the intake side of the piston skirt. You could not keep the front wheel on the ground in the first three gears. I don't understand why they aren't using this type of setup on the H2s.

Currently building a 500cc 2 stroke chopper. 1975 Harley Sportster (Ironhead original) that has been hardtailed. With a 500cc Suzuki Spirit 6000 Dual cylinder, luquid cooled, CVT 🎉 The engine came out of a 1980 Arctic Cat El Tigre. I will be doing a dual expansion chamber setup. All stock with dual pipes, 95 hp. We'll see how my 2 stroke Chopper comes along.

Jack, I love to turn it up when the Harleys are on and the pictures fall off my walls and I had to buy metal cups because the glass on vibrated off the countertop and broke. But those 2 strokes, why I tell you, those 2 stroke just melt my tweeters and then I get that 2 stroke smell.

Started with a BSA bantam 125 dodging mineshaft in Kalgoorlie WA late 60s then went to 4 strokes for a bit . Early 80s got a tz250 made it look like a rd so I could street register it great little toy . You should look at the 2STROKE drags in Thailand small capacity and faster than most of the bikes shown
