We took a ferry from Northern Germany to Denmark, where we followed country roads and bike paths to Copenhagen. From there, we continued up the coast and took a ferry to Helsingborg, Sweden. We cycled most of the Kattegattleden bicycle route as well as some Swedish islands before arriving in Strömstad, our final stop in Sweden before ferrying to Norway.
We rode this section in July/August of 2022.

It's hard to believe that you've actually traveled through all those countries on bicycles. Looking at your map in the opening frames is just awe inspiring. Your videos are always the best to relax and see places that I'll never visit. Stay safe and keep up the good work.

Great to see more of your travels, and I think it is emblematic that you have ridden across Germany (with your Rohloff hubs, Ortlieb panniers, Schwalbe tyres and Tubus racks) and now you are entering Norway to take your Hilleberg tent on a trip back home. I am impressed at your 30 days of wild camping. I don't think that I could ever do it that tough; I would have to stop in a caravan park at least once every 4-5 days to get a real shower. Looking at those tyres, I reckon there is at least another 5,000-10,000kms in them. I would not be worrying too much until the tread blocks had at least been almost worn off. Denmark looked great for bicycle touring. Ride on joyfully.

It might be a little too late now, but just so you know, wild camping isn't allowed in Denmark. You can get some pretty hefty fines if you're caught, so it's worth knowing. It's a damn shame that we don't have the allemannsretten like Sweden and Norway, but it's likely because Denmark is so small. The shelters are up for use, but that's really the only place you're allowed to camp aside from campgrounds.
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence Ай бұрын
Yes we were aware, we wild camped in every country in Europe that we passed through and it was only legal in Scotland, Sweden, and Norway. We spent 14 months in Europe wild camping nearly every night and most of the time it was illegal, but we never had any issues.
@Tarahhh
@Tarahhh Ай бұрын
@@RollingExistence ah okay, that's good to know! I'm all for wild camping myself, but there's so little nature to begin with in Denmark that we have to protect what little we have left, and if everyone wild camped, it would further jeopardize the tiny amount of nature we do have. I don't believe in following rules just for the sake of them, but the nature situation in Denmark is pretty dire

11:14 it is actually legal what you are doing. In Sweden, they have a law called allemansrätten (=Every Manns Right). Meaning, you can use the land, even if it is private. Don't go close to houses, don't litter, 2 years hard labor in the iron mines in Kiruna, without a shovel, do not destroy anything (such as cutting in trees). Don't camp in fields with crop. Leave the spot as you found it. You get the point.

12:30 You bought snow tires. The cracks on the old tires are not normal for an intense use where the tire does not have time to get old. Do you ride with lower pressure than the rated pressure?

We get a high resolution PNG image of the map and then animate the line moving/camera pan using Da Vinci Resolve's Fusion system. The line is hand drawn, it's not an exact replica of our GPX track.

Speaking of wild-camping, you guys have been riding through all sorts of weather conditions, and I mostly see you wearing a pretty limited set of clothing. You have all the camping kit, and are packing a couple of GoPros, and a drone. Extra batteries and chargers as well I presume. You do seem to have fairly small pannier loads (no rack top bag, no handlebar-bags) so I presume you are saving space by carrying limited clothing. I usually carry at least two sets of riding gear, some warmer layers, and some street clothing for around town. So my question - How do you deal with laundry needs? I have done this at times on bush-camps, using an Ortlieb bucket, but it is time consuming. And then there is the drying. I usually have to resort to drying some clothing strung on my panniers while riding... the Chinese laundry. But I have never seen this on your bikes. In winter in Albania, how did you dry clothes?
@RollingExistence
@RollingExistence Жыл бұрын
We carry a very minimal set of clothing. One set of riding clothes and one set of off the bike clothes, as well as base layers for sleeping. Our normal strategy is that we wash a pair of underwear every day and dry it on the panniers. There's a few spots in videos where it can be seen (and in Croatia Andrew's underwear came loose and ended up in the chain). We will wear our riding clothes for a week or so between washes, we'll normally wash them when we get a hotel but sometimes we'll do it on the road and just wear them wet if it's a sunny day. We wash our underwear daily in sinks or outdoor faucets with hand soap, we used a washing machine probably only two or three times the entire fourteen months we were in Europe. We've found that it really just depends on how much you sweat. We structured our trip around Europe where we usually had pretty cool temperatures for riding, so it was fine to go a week without washing our riding clothes. We're currently in Thailand and we are washing our riding clothes every single day because we're pretty much completely soaked with sweat the entire time we're outdoors, but it's a lot easier because we're in a hotel every night.

Denmark is easy to ride with wonderful free shelters at night, and the roads for bicycle are top standard.. But the country and the people are quite boring. it's certainly good cycle destination for beginners. But if you already did 2-3 cycling trips- skip it.

can you guys talk about how you were able to be in europe for 14 months? I thought that non EU citizens can only be there for 90 days out of 180. thanks

We had to structure our route around the Schengen Zone 90 day limit, so we did 90 days in the zone, then 90 days outside the zone in the Balkans, 90 days in, 90 days out in Ireland and the UK, then another 2.5 months in.
