Heh love the gradual increase in power to ride a 'contender' off your wheel. So much more demoralizing than a sudden attack and creating a gap. The sensation is that you 'should' be able to stay attached in a draft, but the wheel just pulls away. Priceless.

Everyone, This is why him and Freelee can smash in the carbs. The average person does not work out like this so they gain weight when they try to smash the carbs. Many people are gaining weight on raw24 for this very reason. Ride like this and feel free to smash the carbs!

Larry Richelli RT4 or SS or 801010 is about eating enough for your activity. Noboby ever said to over-eat. I don't know where people get this impression from. This started happening since the ppl with restriciton pasts started flooding the scene. On days where I just sit at my desk doing computer work, I eat around 3000cals. On days where I work or cycle, I eat around 4000. When I really do nothing all day I can get away with 2000-2500. But that's like an apathetic, depressed, stay-in-bed, being-bored day... it sucks. Gotta at least get out and take a walk or something. Who wants to stay indoors all the time?

How trainable is threshold power? As a middle aged guy returning to cycling after a 6 month layoff, i was seeing only 130W @ 127HR & 97RPM on the gym exercise bike. I can hold that all day but @ 150W HR goes off the clock in minutes. Previously when i've done lots of cardio, my ability to sustain an effort without bonking improves far more than my raw speed...

I'm new to cycling and power meters so I probably need more education on the subject; however, I tend to question expensive trends where they weren't required before to accomplish the same thing. What did successful professional cyclist use before power meters? It seems like power meters become useful only if others are using them....ie because of this push for the trend (everyone who's a serious rider uses power meters). Seems like riders like Greg Lemond, Eddy Merckx, and others before this technology existed used training and feel to determine how fast they could go and for how long? Drop $1000+ for a PM or put that money into wheels, and better equipment to improve comfort, and how the bike actually rides ?

DUMB QUESTION ? How is it I feel more comfortable at 360w seated climbing compard to 360w seated flat riding. To get the same comfort I need to drop50-100w when riding flat. I am heavy, so the cadence is lower when climbing than on the flat. Im pressuming its the marriage/balance of cadence and power to compare apples to apples in regards to watts?

So power reading does not translate to speed or other factors. Also if you are riding by yourself with no one else on the road . Whose responsibility is it to look at the road for obstructions? So why is someone else's responsibility to pay attention to what on the road when you are riding with people? If the wind is at my back causing me to pedal faster wouldn't i generate more power than if there was no wind.
@rokpajer269
@rokpajer269 8 жыл бұрын
riding in a group is meant riding in a close distance with others like you see pros doing in races, and when you are riding close behind someone (to draft and save power obviously) your view is limited, thats why good group riders should always shoutout dangers ahead or their intention to do something (turn at a crossroads for example). If one is at a back of the group its also nice if he or she calls out cars coming from the back. Its all about safety, because if you fall riding on your own and you crash its your fault for not payin attention, but in a group if someone crash, probably he wont be only one hitting the deck. hope that clarified some of your questions.

Are compact cranks better for climbing then triple ring cranks ? (can somebody who knows what they are talking about help me out?)
@roksonable
@roksonable 8 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Moton NO. triple's inner ring will always offer better gear for climbs than double crank. But it comes with weight penalty, and triple are known for its clumsynes. And to be honest with 34 inner ring on compact and maybe 28 on the back you will climb anything, furthermore some groupos allow even 32 on the back for extra steep climbs. There will be more grinding involved than if you go for tripple, but nothing too hard.
@8584zender
@8584zender 8 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Moton With 11 speed rear cassettes, you can put quite a large range of gears on a bike with a double. A compact 50/34 crank is a great way to go for flats or hills unless you find yourself spinning out the 50x11.

Isn't your saddle height low on this bike?
@souloftheage
@souloftheage 8 жыл бұрын
I asked the same thing, Saul. But he has used a power meter so he knows the maximum amount of power he can generate and maintain with a consistent caedence. He just sits lower and "spins to win". He can do that in part because he is so lean. My friends who are small and light just spin that crank like mad and fly up the hills. I weigh almost 50kgs more than some of them(powerlifting years ago) and I would come to a dead stop if I were to attempt to spin such a low gear so fast. One generally finds it easier to spin a higher caedence when seated lower in the saddle AND usually a rider can actually generate MORE power when seated lower vs. higher for the simple reason that one's caedence is more even thoughout the pedal stroke. Everyone has a different riding height that works best FOR THEM. I rarely see weekend warrior road riders with bikes that fit properly and most ride too high or too low in the saddle to be able to generate any amount of consistent long term power. The ONLY way to OBJECTIVELY determine what is right for you is to use a power meter. And DR lives and dies by his power meter....so he's found the "sweet spot" in seatpost height for HIMSELF. You and I maybe much different.

Are compact cranks better for climbing then triple ring cranks ? (can somebody who knows what they are talking about help me out?)
@segway2613
@segway2613 8 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Moton Alright here's the deal: Triple ring cranks for road bikes have an inner ring of 30Teeth (the smaller the ring at the front the easier it is for climbing) Compact cranks have two rings up front -> double crankset. 50T big ring smaller ring 34T. The smallest chain ring is smaller on the triple -> the triple is, on paper, better for climbing hills. If we are comparing these two then it is generally better overall to go with the compact and a larger cassette on the bike versus the triple and a slightly smaller cassette on the back (same lowest gear) Want low gears? Go SMALL ON THE FRONT (34T or LESS) and BIG on the cassette (30T or MORE). If you have a Shimano 105 5703 Triple crankset you can put a 26T small ring(TA chain ring off wiggle.com - 74 Bolt circle diameter, 26 ring) on the crankset/chainset - this will not work on the 6703 Ultegra triple crankset. When you want a triple crankset you'll need a left shifter that can handle 3 rings, a triple specific front derailler and you might even need a different rear derailler (a bike shop can help you with the technical questions). I recommend either a shimano 5703 triple crank (50/39/30 -> 50/39/26) and a 12-28 cassette on the back OR any compact crank (50/34 -> make sure it's not a 52/36) and a 12-32(SRAM cassette) or 11-32(Shimano) cassette on the back. I hope this was not too confusing.

Compact cranks can provide nearly as low gearing these days when paired with a large cassette. Guideline is you need a gear low enough so you can maintain a cadence of at least 70rpm.
