Snow clearing has become a major challenge for many British Columbians.
But a man from Victoria has devised a unique made-in-B.C. solution by putting a snowplow on a bicycle.

@@CerealKiller669 Hey Kitty right on babe. I left a comment yesterday was even funnier. I forget the video I could find it if I was hard pressed, it was another storm video - snow storm but entire comment section below video read Im 73 and Im 61 and Im 55 and back in the 70s and 80s snow storms were real snow storms and bla bla bla. And they went on and on and on each comment slightly similar to another old grandad or granny out there reflecting on how snow fell out the sky 50 years ago. So of course me at my best I gave them an earful. They were going on about how this weeks storms aint got a look in. I said to them hey listen was this weeks storm supposed to make a phone call into the past go back in time hoping a 1970s storm picks up the phone answering with " Hi Storm Anita here " How may I help you. Yes Anita hello , this is snow storm Thomas here from the year 2022. Im in belief Anita that Im pretty bada$$$ Im gonna shut down power for tens of thousands schools and work will stop for many. A few lives will be reported as lost due to my cold bite. Oh Anita replies you sounds pretty horrific. Yeah Thomas responds yeah but my worry is after I shred a city or two Im worried my conscience fears that old men and women age 62-83 will type into KZfaq section saying I'm nothing and that the likes of you being a 1970s storm was is and will remain the real deal. Should I head home to my bed Anita or make my way into cavillation and create havoc ? ROTFL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Where I live, they intentionally redo the roads, to slow car traffic down as much as possible... which is the only way to make a bicycle faster than a car. I mean, they're turning 4 lane road shortcuts across town into 2 lane roads (one in each direction) limited to slow speeds. They INTENTIONALLY slow down every shortcut and don't add more lanes to freeways. All to make people spend more of their day sitting in traffic, and getting worse and worse MPG. It's moronic.

This is pretty cool. I like the V design for stability. Because the plow is so close to the tires he could make it significantly more narrow saving weight and adding a 1/4" steel cutting edge on the narrow plow will stop it from bouncing and the extra weight on a small area (1/4" wide) would cut through the snow down to the pavement better for improved traction for the tires. Very impressive.

Pretty sure you can get snow tires for bikes. We see a lot of cyclists in winter in Whistler, tires are fat and most have different tires than they use in summer. Electric bikes are the norm for winter riding, but not always. Moving at a good pace, but trails get plowed here, probably a lot better than highways in the Lower Mainland. Whistler could have sent a few plows to the city - we've had virtually no snow while they've been getting slammed
@southwirralcyclist1986
@southwirralcyclist1986 Жыл бұрын
I've always thought the same with railroad snow plows. I think it must be similar, in that once you've got going, the bike's momentum carries it through the 'snowdrifts'. Clearly there will be a maximum depth of snow this will cope with, but it seems to work sell clearing quite a few inches of snow. There must be a noticeable increase in 'rolling' resistance!

This is so funny and yet odd.. I did this exact same thing when I was 12 years old with my 10-speed mountain bike.. I took apart my grandma's clothesline in the backyard that she used for hanging clothes to dry out.. I used two pieces of plywood glued and screwed together.. and I screwed rulers to the bottom of the plywood for a scraper.. I used one pulley from the clothesline so I can lift the plow up and down.. it worked good the only downfall is when you went to turn the front wheel would slide.. so I wanted to make a dual front wheel system but didn't know how to weld at that time..

They don't seem to understand the insane amount of money that's taken from people against their will and the pathetic amount of services you get back. It would be a lovely idea, if you could adapt this for disabled or disabled scooters. We aren’t given snow tires for our wheeled assistance devices, nor do ppl think to clear ice dams from curb ramps, effectively housebounding us. During snow, we are forced to used taxi services who also fail to provide “enough accessible vehicles” during this time, making us wait upwards of three hours each call, there and back, for a service we pay through the nose for usually while not being employed, bc yanno: disabled. And doctor visits, at least for myself can be almost daily every week…, so having to call an accessible taxi is a NEED not a want, the alternative is to not be treated, suffer, and become more ill.
