Just a quick comparison between a stock sear spring and the Cylinder & Slide, Inc. light pull sear spring in a M1911A1 style pistol from Rock Island Armory.
It is advertised as reducing trigger weight by approximately 1.5#. Testing seems to show that to be true, and then some. The product is definitely very effective at what it claims to do, potentially even too effective depending on what your goals are. It took this well broken-in RIA 1911 from 4# to 2# with no other parts changes or modifications.
Cylinder & Slide disclaimer: “We recommend that this product be installed by a competent gunsmith. No liability is expressed or implied for damage or injury which may result from installation or use of this product.”
What that means is if you aren’t confident in the work you’re doing, stop and seek out the help of someone qualified. Making alterations to a firearm is always serious business and requires an understanding of all mechanical and safety aspects. This is especially true when it is work that affects the fire control mechanisms.

I purchased the whole CandS ignition set. It was a great price and it is excellent. If your even half assed capable of taking apart a 1911 installation is straight forward and drop in easy. I was tired of gunsmiths working on my triggers and dealing with hammer follow etc. So decided I'd do the smart thing.

It’s definitely requires a bit of know-how to ensure everything ends up being safe, but so many “gunsmiths” now don’t even comprehend the basics. It’s sad.

If I had a stock trigger pull of just under 4 lbs, I would be extremely happy and leave it the way it was!

That’s the nice thing with the 1911. Quite good triggers from the factory are the norm. This was fun to try out, but it definitely takes some getting used to how short and crisp it is.

@@ColterBrog Yeah, I think even a 2 lb trigger pull is too light for me. 3.5 to 4 lbs is what I prefer. Just be careful with that thing! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻

I may try that. I just got a RIA A1 1911 & it has a 6 pound trigger. Another company made a reduced power sear spring that dropped trigger pull to 5.75 pounds. I'm not ready to start bending springs & hoping for the best so this spring may be my next option.

Just be certain to understand all aspects of the 1911 fire control and how it all interacts. It is a delicate balance that unfortunately can’t be demonstrated on this platform. If in doubt, have the work done or at least checked by an experienced gunsmith. I don’t want to be a nanny, but don’t want to under emphasize the danger that can exist when making alterations like this.

I guess. If you can figure out how to take it out, you should be able to tweak your own spring no? Just not a fan of waiting for delivery. Now with that installed, drop the slide and look for hammer or any other safety issues. I love ultra light triggers, but consider the potential consequences.

I don’t particularly like tweaking springs, and prefer replacement. Someone with more physics background than what I have could probably give some lengthy explanation of why it is or isn’t okay in specific circumstances involving Young’s Modulus, Hooke’s Law, Stress/Strain curves, elastic deformation yielding to plastic deformation and fracture, etc. I am not nearly qualified for giving that explanation, but have typically found the results to be better especially in longevity by using a new spring aimed at a particular goal, rather than trying to stretch or bend existing springs. In this instance, bending the spring so that it is “weaker” would decrease its overall travel so you could end up with either a strange feeling resistance that isn’t as consistent, spring pressure that is too weak, or a damaged spring that will become weaker quickly… or it might work fine. Also remember that in this instance we’re really talking about three springs in one. This spring affects the trigger return and sear tension, which need to work in unison, and then also grip safety tension. They’re all important to safe function.

Did you check for hammer follow? You have to adjust those springs.. all springs after installation.. this is horrible info being spread around thats gonna really hurt someone or send someone to prison for 10 or more years.. Please stop.

Let me fill you in. This is not an instructional video. It is a review of a part sold on the open market, and it has both a verbal, visual, and written disclaimer that someone not competent and qualified should seek installation by a qualified gunsmith. KZfaq has certain restrictions on what is allowed to be shown on their platform. They do not allow instruction on “trigger jobs”- and this is no such thing. This is a review video on a part I installed and the outcome from it. There is a specific reason why I do not and cannot show *how*. This video shows my experience with a part, but does not give instruction on installing it, because installation should be done by someone competent and qualified who knows how to check for hammer follow and make adjustments to engagement or tension as necessary to correct that issue. I have to work within the rules. Don’t hate me. Hate the rules.
