Third & last in a series of videos that introduce the novice machinist to cylindrical grinding. Cylindrical grinding is not generally used by novice machinists but learning the basics of the process can help to impress a future employer or bring someone to farm out certain operations to a specialized shop because they would understand that this technique could help in completing an important part. More specifically, this video looks at three feeds and grinding wheel wear as well as how to align the machine properly for parallel cutting.

"Most home shops don't have a cylindrical grinder" Not absolutely true. While I don't have a machine like the one you have been demonstrating, I do have a toolpost grinder for my lathe. Although a much more basic system, the principles still apply. I learned and will use much of what you have covered in these videos. Thank you Marc.

I would ask Tom Lipton about Uncle Bob's story. He uses it all the time and honestly I always wondered about it.

I first heard "And Bob's Your Uncle" in a Tom Lipton AKA Ox Tools video and get a kick out of saying it. Sayings come and go over the years I guess. "Press On Old Chap" lol!

And Bob's your uncle. The origins are uncertain, but a common theory is that the expression arose after Conservative Prime Minister Robert "Bob" Cecil appointed his nephew Arthur Balfour as Chief Secretary for Ireland in 1887, an act which was apparently both surprising and unpopular. Marc, This is another very educational and educational video series. I learn from _every_ one of your videos. :) Thank you for posting this fantastic information. This isn't related to cylindrical grinding, but exactly how did you attach your digital caliper to your mill drill's spindle? Could you show the details? That's an idea that I need to add to my mill drill too.

I am setting up a Jones & Shipman cylindrical grinder. The machine has centers, and the head stock center is operating as a dead center. I wish to make it turn as a live center. But do not understand how to change this to a rotating center. Can you please cover this? Thank you Mr. Bonnevie

Hello good sir, I got a question and nobody so far could answer me in a way I understood completely. When grinding, or turning, there's a phenomenon that if you put a dial indicator on the side where the tool was, it will give out a zero reading - as it should. Eg the grinding wheel takes to one exact spot, no more, no less, so it should read zero. Where it get's strange though is that at the exact other side of the ground/turned part an indicator might NOT read zero and instead give roughly the total runout of the part. But I don't understand how that works. How can it read zero on one side and not the other? It must be not-round obviously, but in what way? What does the cross section look like, any example? Where does it come from? I hope I'm being clear enough, English is not my first language, I apologize. Cheers
