This video explains how to make your acoustic cymbals & drums muted for practicing. If you live in an Apartment or a Flat or even a Townhouse, or a regular house and are having problems with people telling you to stop playing drums because of the volume, this video is for you. Worked perfectly. Went to the local fabric store and got 4” wide elastic. Sewed them up. I also folded them in half and sewed them 1/8” along the fold to help them stay even on the cymbals. I also used paper binder clips when I was putting the mutes on the cymbals since as your video proved correctly you can’t really do it easily with just one pair of hands.

After muting, now you can apply a trigger to them and you have more electronic cymbals!

Did you have a formula for how long you made the elastic based on the circumference of the cymbal? I’m a tailor and I don’t mind the sewing but I wonder how much smaller you need to make the elastic.

Ok The 21" Ride Cymbal Band was 42" , The 18" Crash was 32" , The 16" Crash was 26" , The 14" Hi-Hats were 20". The 10" Splash was 14". Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

Thats a great idea for a silent practise. Do you have any way for lowering cymbal volume in a live situation, so that the cymbals can still sound like an actual instrument?

The only thing i can recommend for lowering your cymbal volume would be by putting some light thin tape on the underside of the cymbals till you get the desired sound you're looking for. I hope that helps out. Good Luck. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

How wide was the elastic?

All the bands were just shy of 2 inches. Each cymbal was measured for the circumstance, I made each band less than the cymbal size to allow for stretching, and that’s it. Thanks for watching KEEP ROCK’ JOEDRUMS2112

FYI: They sell rubber ones already made on amazon ...what happened to your arm?

Wow I did not know that they made such a thing, the only way I knew that the cymbal mutes would work.was my very first teacher had made some out of an ACE Bandage. I wanted mine to look a little more decorative, so I opted for the ones I'm using in the video. My arm is getting over a really bad burn I got while falling asleep at my computer for over 5 hours, I was 3ft away from the space heater while sitting in a chair. I woke up and my arm was bubbled up with a 2nd degree burn. It's now been 4 weeks and I'm still recovering from my stupid dum mistake. I've been putting antibiotic ointment on it most every day.
